Anyone tried the Borg Warner S484 turbo yet?

I'm wondering what kind of match up these turbos would be for the stage II stuff?
Turbo specs are 84mm Compressor / 87mm Turbine

I don't think they offer a 84mm compressor. They do have an 82 FMW capable of about 125-130 lbs/min airflow. They just released an 88mm in the S400 line that looks really bad ass. I'm running a Hybrid S400-88 with the 96mm turbine from Bullseye basically because Borg at the time didn't offer an 88mm in the S400 frame at the time. If I had to do it over I'm sure the 82mm would cover my needs and would fit easier under the hood.

Yea, just google Forced Inductions S484. It is advertised in a T6 platform, but you can order it in the T4 with the V1 race cover (5.5 inlet, 3in hose outlet). Ordered it today....

I was looking at the 82mm wheel advertised air flow map. I calculate I will need at least 120lbs/min to make 1200hp. The 82mm could have covered it,but 120lbs/min was pretty far off the 75% efficiency island. I think it was like 0.62 or so. The 84 is right in the middle of the 88mm and the 82mm. So got my fingers crossed that it is not a backpressure nightmare.

Does that 96mm turbine have any street manners?

I can't help but to be excited out this turbo...Now I get to see what this Twisted 6 stage II is really made of (metaphorically speaking I hope)

Turbo arrived yesterday..It is big mama. This thing should have wheels and a motor, not the other way around.
I will prob have several fitment issues. I just hope I do not have to redo the headers to raise the turbo up and forward some for clearance.

Sounds awesome. What A/R exhaust housing did you go with? What's your redline?

I've started shopping for a turbo in this same size range, so I'll be watching this thread closely :).

Chris

I went ahead and got both the 1.10 and 1.25 exhaust A/Rs. I am going to try the smaller one first. The 1.25 is really visually larger. I hope the 1.10 gives me the best chance at fitment. I am taking off a small frame turbo and installing this dude.
I should know by end of tomorrow if it is going to be plug and play.
I also upgraded the injectors from 120 to 160 for expectation of power levels.
My shift point now is 6800. but ill spin it to 7000 it there is power left on the table.
What size engine do you have?

Mine's 270ish inches (just purchased the car and don't have full build details since the motor was built over 10 years ago). It's not running at the moment and currently has a seized Innovative GTB-88 (S400 chassis, 96/88 turbine, 1.32 turbine housing, old 7-blade 88 TV compressor wheel). Planning to go to something with a more modern compressor wheel and maybe drop down to a smaller turbine and turbine housing, more like your S484, if it works well...

Do you run pump gas? Very interested to see how that turbo spools up with the 1.1 housing and how the backpressure / drive pressure looks with the 87 wheel.

Turbobitt, do you have any backpressure readings with your turbo?

Chris

Yes with the 96/88 turbine and modified 1.10 exhaust housing I get about 15 psi over boost at 30 psi boost and about 5-7 psi drop over the intercooler. So compared to hot boost its probably less than 10 psi over boost.

Thanks for the info - that wheel must really flow well, especially given it's in the tighter housing. That gives me hope for the 87 and 92 wheels when dropping to a sub-88 compressor.

So not going to be plug and play for sure. Turbo needs to be moved away from the motor about 1 inch. It hits the water pump as is. I have an opening with the fab shop next week, so I can get my T4 flange moved over.

Post pictures of the turbo please.
I ended up removing the electric pump motor and making a plate, then ran a remote pump near the frame. It freed up some room for the large S500 compressor housing. I would suspect the S400 housing to be a little smaller.

Here are some photos of how I installed my S476 from Work Turbo. It is a 76 cast compressor with the 87/82 turbine using the Tial 1.16 V band exhaust housing.
