1987 Buick GNX ---9700 miles

A shot across the bow....
If you are not in the market for this car, plse keep the "lip service" out of the thread..;)

So I have a legitimate question for the OP as investment grade cars have been on my mind lately. Why call it driver quality? Why wouldn't it be a car to buy and put away? Why isn't this worth $80-$100k like the rest of the lower mile GNXs?
Other than the exhaust, and maybe paint, what makes this car not a 10?

Sigh!! First off I hope someone buys this car to drive, not purely as an investment. I think some people are getting hug up on words, I guess what I mean by a good driver car is in my eyes the mileage is basically 10K, I would think someone could maintain this car nicely and put another 10k miles on it--ENJOY driving it and let other people see it and then if they wanted to sell for the same amount they bought it for or super close. The "Museum" cars are just that-- sub one or two thousand mile car with plastic still on the seat that people are scared to drive 30 miles because OMG it will flip 700 miles while it's out.
In the last 4 days I have spent more time on the phone talking to people who are actually interested in the car and fully understand how I have described the car and the condition it is in.
I have posted detailed pictures and fully described it---if you are interested in the car, by all means call me. I have listed my numbers right on the first post.
I really didn't expect the car to sell here, and as of right now it is the only place it is listed for sale. I figured I would give the true TR fans a look at first. I have been BLOWN away by the amount of interested people.

Thanks,
Geoff

I almost think it would make some people feel better if I change the ad to:
"1987 GNX #235, 9700 miles $80K PM me--maybe I'll respond, maybe I won't. Just buy the car."

Geoff.

Fair enough. Was not trying to be critical at all. I was simply trying to understand the GNX market better. I will call you if I have further questions.

Randy

I would TOTALLY drive this car. Cars are meant to be driven.
It's also refreshing to have a seller honestly represent a car vs overselling it and then being let down.
Cheers to Geoff.
GLWS.

True , the sub 1k mile X's are going to stay just that , sub 1k mile cars , garage queens , museum pieces , conversation pieces , trophies , art work , etc . No offense to anyone , if that's what you want to do with them , so be it , everyone has their own way of owning these musclecars/collector cars .
To me , there is more satisfaction taking one out to enjoy , being behind the wheel of a real GNX , taking it out to cruise nights cars shows , etc , than having it sit in the garage with 500 miles nervous I'm hurting the value with every mile the odometer rolls up .
So the guy that has one locked up with 500 miles can now , 30 years later , sell it for $100k , the guy who has 10k miles can sell his for mid $60k's ,........ for the $35k difference , you " stared " at the car rather than drive and enjoy . In the big picture , $35k is squat ! In 30 years you could have done multiple ventures to far exceed $35k profit to be wrapped up in one item .
Now don't get me wrong , there are wealthy collectors out there that is what their passion is , to obtain rare collections , and with that , so be it .
Once a GNX passes 1-2k miles , drive it with no concerns , you really are not hurting future value of it .
Any X 5,10,15k miles that you can score for $60-low $70's is a great value for one that you can go drive/enjoy . Years ago when the older crowd used to tell me " life is to short " , now I know what they mean .
As far as Geoffs X , someone is going to get a nice X for a very good price , IMO . It shouldn't last long at this price . I can honestly say , since obtaining my X just about a year ago now , and I do still follow any I see come up for sale , there have been none in the past year that I can honestly say ( for the $$$$ / miles / condition ) that I would have made a move on other than Geoffs .
Again Geoff , GLWS , I don't think it's going to be long before you reply " sold " to this car . Guys who are serious interested buyers , better make a move on it , it's slim pickings when they come up like this !!!!!!

Car is sold, pending payment and final transaction. The first person to make a big effort and come and look at the car bought it. I have had heavy, HEAVY interest in the car, if you are one of the persons that expressed interest and would like an update as things progress, just call me or message me and I will keep you updated.
I would really like to thank all of the positive comments people have made in this thread and especially thank Billy and Mizzi for their support--you guys are my buds and I can't wait to hang out a weekend with you.

Thanks,
Geoff

"Driver quality" 20 footer GNX with less than 10k miles? Average paint and original exhaust rotted? Is the mileage original and accurate?
You are aware this is still a 1987 GM quality car at the core. A car sitting is a car rotting. A car that runs a little and rots from condensation and chemical reactions will rot out the nicest of exhaust.

Beautiful car, and at $65k it is priced right.

It is a beautiful car. I've owned several including caring for my dad's sub 20k mile GN with the original exhaust which is in excellent shape. Either way, someone got a very nice GNX.

This was a beautiful car and obviously killer deal! If I had the cash this car would be mine! For now I'm just drooling and living my life vicariously through others!! Nice X Man!!

As the ad says, the mileage is original. I am trying to be brutally honest with the description because I hate misunderstandings.. The car is almost 30 years old, the exhaust should not come as a surprise to anyone. I understand peoples expectations on a car like this and I am just trying to be very clear, maybe to the point of being a little over critical on the car.

I will have some more pictures posted by tomorrow. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM

Geoff
GLWS if your honest about the car to these guys on the board it will sell itself ,Chris

Would consider a trade for the GNX, I have 2007 Dodge Charger Superbee numbered car # 0002 out of 1000. With 4200 miles on it. Its the first retail superbee when they came back out. I worked for a Chrysler dealership in 2006 and my owner got me in touch with the head of the srt division. He was able to get me the whole srt to sign the wing. Since then i replaced the engine with a 392 supercharged 700 plus hp. Transmission, rearend suspension wheels/tires I have all the original parts and many extras. I have over $100,000 into it. It is going to be in a tv show that is going to air in april on National geographic supercar megabuild. Thanks Manny 516 991 0806

---New tires (BFgoodrich) (Do not have original tires)
---All 4 bumper fillers replaced by well respected auto body shop
---Passed state safety inspection last month
---Clear title in hand
--- The car has been extensively detailed under the hood, under the car, and the front suspension-- t looks terrific

I have a few documents to substantiate the vehicle mileage: a copy of a 1995 Wisconsin vehicle title; a 1999 Carfax, 2003/2012/2015 state safety inspection reports.

We have owned the car since 01/02 and are confident in the condition the car is in. The car is priced properly and will make someone a great vehicle that will only appreciate in value.

The car is located in Northern Virginia now, I can have the car in south/ eastern NC. I can also help with delivery of this vehicle with a very nice aluminum open car trailer that I have towed this car many miles before. Delivery will have to be discussed before deal is done. Delivery will be done after all money has cleared our accounts.

If you have any questions, please ask, as I prefer to be very open and honest and want to be very transparent about working out a deal.

This car is not perfect. In my opinion it is an excellent driver quality vehicle: safe, reliable, original and looks great from 20 feet. If I were to keep the car I would do the following: new exhaust and a quality paint job

I will get some more photos shortly
How much are you asking ? I think I missed it
