What's the difference on the stock chips for ha and ic besides the elec fan & mat sensor?

Is it possible to run the 87 ECM with the 85 chip? I know the calpak is compatible, but what about the big chip?

Hey Jerryl,
The picture in that post is showing a thumbwheel style chip compared to a normal chip.

The actual type/size of the chip is the same for the 84 through 87, but the programming is completely different so you still can't interchange them.

Is it the ECM or the chip that makes it possible to use a scanmaster ? Basically I'm asking can I use my 85 chip with the 87 ECM and scanmaster until my new chip is ordered?

Nope, tried it check engine light blink like crazy I guess the chip for the 85 is not compatible with the 87 ECM. I was taking a shot to see why scan tools can't be used with hot air ECM just curious that's all
