Now before everyone gets mad, i know i know. I was out racing with a bunch of my buddies just messing around on low boost around 11lbs. My buddy with his vr6 VW bora wanted to go on an all out run down the highway to the next exit. My car was running at about 195 for temp. I put my chip on 5 and running 16lbs of boost. Well fastforward i was running my car pretty hard, i looked down at my temp and it was reading 250. I was just coming up to.the rest area and i put my heat on high. It stalled coming off the highway and i coasted into a spot. Obviously it was cooked. I let it sit for an hour and filled it up with water. It took about 20 mins to get it started and i limped it the 12 miles home. Well its firing on 5 cylinders and it sounds like a rod or bearing issue too. And i got oil that i think is blowing out of my crank seals. So now what do i do. Anybody in the upper new england area have a motor? The way i look at it if the motors coming out i might as well have something better going in. Or even a cheap motor i could build myself. Thanks Erik

Well, can't say you weren't warned! Might as well do a intercooled swap now.

Yeah i think i fried my coil pack, cylinder 1 isn't getting spark. I heard Cottons has an intercooled motor ready to go

Couple of complete motors in the marketplace page, recently posted, definitely worth a peek. Too bad about it though, Def need too know what your state is at all times though, probably didnt need to be in this position. Good luck.

Do you have a Scanmaster? You might have avoided this if you saw the knock happening.

No i do not, like i said i was running my car hard and pushing it. My buddy couldnt keep up with me at 130 so i guestimated 140-145 i was definitely movin. Funny thing is though i had my scanner on it earlier and it was throwin a code for a short on the o2 sensor but when i plugged it in yesterday there were no codes and my o2 sensor was working.

Scanmasters are a good thing to keep installed on a TR if you are "turning it up to 5"

That sucks man.....bummer.:( good that it went out in a "blaze of glory" so to speak...lol

FWIW, my 3.8 hot air motor went a GPS confirmed 159mph and lived to tell about it... ...had my scanmaster on the dash the whole time though...;)

Come on !!! NH doesn't have enuff straight roads for a hot air car to get to 140/145 .. You had best have a good paying job because from the sound of things you will be goin threw more motors. :p Oh a "guesstimate is like a butt dyno"

I beg to differ, 93north exit 17 all the way to the rest area in Canterbury. Car moves.

Theres a guy with a running 82 carbed turbo motor for sale on craigslist. Im pretty sure i can swap intakes, throttle body, etc. and drop it in?

Do you know the history of your engine? If it has good parts in it like an aftermarket cam and pistons and ported heads it might be better to rebuild it. Sounds like its coming out any way. I'ld pull it and check it out. Unless you can hear that engine I would be careful. Easy to say it "ran like a champ" and then you're back is turned "you're a chump".

True, i might just end up rebuilding the motor in it now, i just didnt want to disable it since it still runs. And no i have no idea if anyones been into the motor it was built for drag racing about 4 owners ago thats all i know

well tear it out and open it ..see what you did and go from there ;) ever heard 'it costs to go fast ' well now you know what it means eric..lol and depending on how your pocket book looks and how much you want to build it ,it will get costly ,and it never fails ahh im just gonna do this and that and you keep going ,example blew anouther head gasket on my mud truck so know it got a set of aluminium brodix heads with manly valves with port work and im not gonna talk about price , but anyway point being YOU always want to go faster when you fix stuff ,unless i just have that sickness:confused:

Yes exactly. Im stuck because i dont know if i should fix the grand nash first or my buick wagon thats been sitting for 2 years that all i godda do is finishing putting the 403 together ive been building. Ahhh ive been contemplating putting the gn off and fix my wagon first but it's getting warmer out and all these ricers rippin around and i just feel like they need to be knocked down the food chain a little lol

Get some #7 heads off an early 350 for that 403. That will wake it up.

X2! i maxed out all my bikes on that stretch... my last bike bumped the rev limiter in 6th showing 176 on the speedo! guard rail is continuous so no place for cops to hide, and it was always at 2am on a weeknight on the way to bike week. only dangerous thing was the occasional deer ;) that being said, holding your hot air buick WFO for multi-miles with no scanmaster is foolish and expensive- find a competent local machinist and rebuild the motor yourself, it'll be good practice for ya!
