I noticed that GBodyparts has the 44 on sale for 595 and wanted to know the major differences in these two turbos.

Basically the TA49 is stock appearing and the TE44 is not. Both make about the same power (TE44 a bit more). You should be able to spool them on your stock torque converter.

Yes, the TA49 works well - see signature.

I think I'll go with the 49. It costs more but I think it will suit my needs as a stock appearing turbo. With alky, I can really crank it up.

I'd go for the TE-44, it's the same wheel with a more efficient housing and will make a little more power then a 49 although very close. I noticed a 200rpm difference in spool up from my stock turbo. And I ran a best 60ft of 1.61 on the stock converter. I tried to get an even better launch but snapped my axle.

I also went with the TE-44 for the reasons specified by Forzfed. For the money, it looked like the better deal. Will be running it with 42# injectors, 204/214 cam, and otherwise stock '87 setup.

a te44 will fit under stock shield no problem.with a te44 & stock converter you will love it.youll have a sh.t eatten grin you wont be able to wipe off.many people have been in the 11,s w/a te44.and tinman went 10,s with a te44 & a lot more boost than you will ever run.

I have turbonetics cpt44 on my car. Its awesome. Can't wait to get my new PTC converter on to make up for some of the spool lag. I have it at 22 pounds with razors ally kit. Your gonna love the 44.

heres the turbo installed

restalled d5 or bone stock d5?

My 1.61 60ft was done on a stock D5 on a cooler day. On a hot day I ran a 1.67 with my low milage stock car running 19psi.

How do pull such low 60's with the stock stall ?
E-Brake Launch, Line Lock or transbrake ?

I havent been to the track in a while, but I could never get below a 1.8 with my stock stall and turbo. After a few lbs of boost Id push thru the lights..

87Turbo...

I too as TheGovernment mentioned, went through the same debate. I was leaning toward the 49 for stock appearing reasons also. Another thing that pushed me toward the 49 is the 44 requires a different or modified wg actuator.
I ended up with a fresh rebuilt 49 I bought off the board. Im having fun with it so far. Have to get back to the track to tune it. going 20+ on the street is trouble waiting to happen

I needed bald drag radials or slicks to get into the 1.6x. On a stock turbo my best was 1.67 on slicks, holding 15lbs at the line with the foot brake. The brakes on my cars are really good.
