Supposedly never titled.

No GNX #?

Mecum sales this weekend at St Charles IL.

Scheduled to be auctioned at 11am central time this Saturday lot S29.

I would be surprised if it got to the reserve. A lot of cars go thru that auction without selling. Be nice to see though.

Looks like it has about 4,500 miles on it.

Info from the site:
- Never titled, MSO
- Turbo GNX engine
- Automatic transmission

A buddy of mine is at that auction this wekend and he told me that the GNX is in pretty rough shape for being only 4,000 miles.....door dings, scratches and a pretty crusty bottom-side.....

Looks like the IP bezel does not have the 3.8 Turbo emblem which is characteristic of the bezels from GMSPO....

I wasn't at the auction and have no idea how severe the underside of this car was,
but just as an aside I've seen quite a few untouched GNXs with crusty bottoms.
Most of the ones I've seen that looked good have been restored on the underside to some
degree. Go around to any new car lot and have a look underneath. Most new cars will have
some crust on unprotected parts from being exposed to the elements even for a short time be
It via transport or sitting out on the lot. Eventhough most Xs never sat on lots they have been
outside at some point over their 22 yrs and if you consider this you'll realize most untouched
Xs even with a little surface rust on the unprotected bare metal parts aren't so bad.

Well,I was there.I've owned turbo cars w/over 80k miles that were nicer.I also owned gnx006 that had over 16k miles on it that looked like new, undercar. This car was not stored properly, the paint was bad,and not because the factory painted it bad.It also had a set of half ass ctr caps on it.It was at best a $50-60k car.At least would have changed the caps and buffed it.

I too have had some turbo cars with very nice undercarriages. I'm not sure what the deal is with GNXs and rusty undercarriages, but most I've seen have had rust for whatever reason unless they've had some degree of restoration. Lower #'d ones seemed to have more than the higher #'d ones.

Was thumbing through a GNX book the other day and noticed that they were rusty even during the conversion. Look really good at pages 54 and 55 of the GNX book. Page 54 shows rusty drums before aluminum ones were installed. You can also see a little bit of the rusty axle housing. The pic on pg 55 shows a good picture of a rusty axle after aluminum drum installation, an oxidized gas tank, and wet splatter from what looks like driving in the rain right behind the wheel opening. See below.

Have been in the body business my whole life and having alot of Buick dealer familiarity you can bet that the pictured car was most likely not offered for sale in that shape, particularly when it would be offered @ 10K plus over sticker 22 years ago.Maybe Rick Hunt can chime in( ASC).I now a few dealers back then changed tanks and drums ,even painted under carriages. This was on GN's that were getting sold over sticker .Without question they did (clean up the 2 X's they had allocated to them. The 2 they bought from low volume rural (small)
dealers needed nothing done.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. That is restoration even if it was done 22 years ago. it changes the car from how it actually came.

Also think though that's just a handfull out of 547.....I'm sure a few may have slipped through the cracks which is why you see so many rusty ones today. Just my observation.

As an aside, I've bought a few expensive "collectible" cars new and never really paid much attention to the undercarriage. Why would you it's supposed to be brand new right?? I didn't really even think about it and kinda took it for granted. Fortunately they use more aluminum and stainless now vs then so it's less of a problem and they still look pretty good.

I also didn't become that interested in undercarriage condition until I noticed more and more focus on them in the collector car community. I have seen numerous posts with people pitching fits about how rusty different GNXs are underneath. I myself am guilty of such until I started looking more and more. Anyone ever really stop to think that maybe they came that way?? I think the pictures show they may have.

Anyways, after seeing such I began to look closer when I would go look at new cars on a dealer lot and believe it or not the unprotected metal parts are already rusty even here in warm mostly dry TX.

Just my observation whatever it's worth.

They sat outside at ASC for several weeks. Any untreated bare metal would start to rust and that was 22 years ago.
