How do you set up the oil pump clearances?

I've done the Earl Brown mods on my timing cover, but for the life of me, I can't find how to set up the clearances on the oil pump. I been using the seach function to no avail...I must be blind  Does anyone know where that writeup is.

Just took the engine over to the machine shop for a short block rebuild this morning, I can't wait to get my GN back on the road.

Thanks in advance

Use a dial indicator to check the end play of the gears. Then swap the gasket that seals the thrust surface to the cover to adjust clearances. They make several thicknesses.

you will need to purchase

TA's oil gasket kit, it has various thickness gaskets.
assemble the gears (with the cover on the bench) using a gasket ( makes no difference what thickness) torque the cover to proper specs, and use a dial indicator thru cam sensor hole to measure up and down movement, that will be the end clearance!, change gaskets to achieve the proper clearance.
BUT.... you must have a flat cover and oil pump housing, if need be 400 grit sandpaper on piece of glass to surface them flat.
its worth it , and you can say you did it yourself.

If you have an old Mellings plate or similar you dont need the dial indicator. Some have a hole above the gears & if not make a hole that feeler guages will go thru. Put the gasket on & tighten the plate with some short screws. 3-4 of them is enough. Put feeler guage thru the hole & keep changing gaskets until you get the 2 thous. Then you know its the right gasket & your good to go. The TA set is good to have & as mentioned a Flat Surface is important!
