Hey guys,

my girlfriend has an 07 mustang v-6, and wants me to "make it fast". I know there are a few different blower kits out there for them, and various other performance parts, but I know jack-$hit about mustangs, especially the new 4 liter v6. Before i start throwing parts at her car and wasting her money, I wanna do some research and find out what works and what doesnt, what brands are good, which arent, etc. Pretty much, I'm looking for a board just like this one, but for mustangs, and if theres one for the v6 stangs, thats even better.

thanks for any help!

Put a small shot on the car and be done. Make sure its a good wet kit.
Some cold air induction and a better exhaust.

Everything else would be a waste of money. You might as well trade it in and buy a GT if you are going to spend the money on a supercharger, fuel system, and tune.

Corral.net has been the biggest site for stangs since around 98. The V6 forum has never had that much activity though. Theres an issue of 5.0 that yours truly has a mention in, and they did several forced induction 2005 v6 mustang tech articles. Paul Svincki, who is a famous modular cobra guy and stang builder from way back, has a 2005 v6 running 11.60's with bolt on parts and a vortech. Theres nothing that beats a turbo though. The new V6's have alot more potential than the older ones. If you add a Novi1000 centrifugal blower with 13psi (my preference), with a front mount IC (ebay has alot of great ones for cheap, and you can make the plumbing yourself easily), throw on an off road X-pipe...yes, even on a v6 car...dr. gas x-pipe preferably, mufflers (catbacks on the new stangs are ridiculously priced for how little metal and bending there actually is), headers, throttle body and MAF, get a diablosport tune on a mustang dyno...you can easily have a deep 12 second car. I dont think you need an aftermarket fuel pump, and the midpipe is actually a really good flowing pipe..but you can always improve. Bad thing about the centrifugal blowers is that the boost is linear with rpm. So anytime you want to get up and go, you need to downshift...always keep the rpm's high. I would either go with a Novi 1000 or Novi 1200, or a single 57mm turbo....turbo being by far the best. Add an alky kit and you'll be great.

Wow, thanks guys, I didnt expect this much mustang help on a buick board :) I also had no idea you could make those 4.0's run that fast. I think her goals are a bit more modest than what a lot of you guys are suggesting. Shes not a real huge gearhead, but wants to make her car faster, loves the aural and visual impact of a blower, and would like to be able to tell people its supercharged, so I'm thinking a bolt on blower kit and whatever injectors/computer mods would need to be made to accomodate that... and probably a beefier clutch I guess, unless the stock one is good enough (she has a manual). I've been doing some looking at the sites you guys reccomended, and while I think the turbo kits that are out there definitely have a lot of potential, and I'm obviously partial to turbo sixes:) , I think its a little overkill for what she wants. she's just looking for a little more pep at the stoplight, and im sure shell never take it to the track (she can;t look whenever I go, has to set up the camera on the tripod, and turn away).

Again, thanks for all the info and suggestions for further research... I got a lot of reading now to figure out what I'm gonna do to her lil black mustang............. man now I can;t stop thinking about a turbo, we could have matching black turbo sixes :)

Oh, and as for the suggestion about getting a GT rather than trick out her lil six, she loves that damn car (daddy bought it for her) and I don't think she'll stop driving it till she dies.

Ive noticed most girls will think the car is faster if its louder. Just slap some open headers on it and she'll think it runs 9's...

Trade it in for a GT. I've had 5 Mustangs (one cobra, one Jack Roush)and could never figure out why people would spend the money on upgrades for a standard Mustang when you could buy a GT that has better resale value and more power from the get go. Not to mention the overwhelming add-ons for GT's that realtivly cheap. It's a better investment and more fun.

Sorry, guess I should have read the replies before suggesting the GT.

GT's have crap resale value just like all of them. Not sure what era GT you're talking about, but the 05 and up ones have extremely overpriced aftermarket parts, but can make really good power with forced induction. My cobra made 500 at the wheels with a Novi 1000 at 11.5psi...stock heads and cams, stock exhaust manifolds, 80mm MAF. Throw 11.5psi at a pre 05 GT, and you'll be making around 350-370rwhp. Unfortunately, the cobra's resale values plummeted and I lost my ass. But they're still awesome cars. You can get a 99 cobra for pretty cheap, and they'll respond way better to mods than a GT will. In my opinion, a V6 stang is a complete waste of time. Sure you can hack it up and throw a turbo on it, but you're grossly limited with how much boost you can run, because of the high compression. Plus the bottom ends dont hold up all that great.

I'm comparitively speaking. The GT Vs. the V6 resale value 5 years from now.

Also, my last mustang was a 2001 Jack Roush so what do I know. I did get 18k for my 98' yellow cobra in 2001 and I bought it for 19k in 99. That's the only one I miss. Loved that car.

LMAO!!!!!! good one!

Yeah Im not baggin on women. Its just an observation. I remember when I was 16 and I changed the cam in my friends stock 1972 overhead cam datsun truck that he was trying to turn into a pre runner. About 10 years ago he started an offroad/racing truck company called solo motorsports. They've gotten somewhat big. Maybe you've heard of them....anyway this was back in 1987. Total waste of time. It had a 1600 engine and he asked me to pop an 1800 cam in it. I told him it would make no difference but he was set on it. While I was doing that, he cut the muffler off it. When I was done, we drove it down the street. His girlfriend was in the truck with us. He floors it, and its accelerating with all the fury that 100hp can give you, and she starts screaming and clinging onto him telling him to slow down from the 40mph he was doing. She's yelling  "I hate you brent! You made it so fast that bobby's going to die!" I was laughing about that for the next 10 years. I noticed it with my wife and old girlfriends too. Just make it louder and they think its faster. :D

I feel ya there. getting rid of my cobra was the biggest mistake ever. I loved that car. My boss sold the company, and the new owner moved us to lake forest, about 40 miles in the other direction. i thought I was going to be forced to drive the 5 freeway all the way there, so I figured that Id be spending mad money on gas and would be spending 4-5 hours a day on the road, so there was no way I could handle that much stop and go traffic with a heavy clutch. Plus with all that money on gas, theres no way I could afford a transponder too. I wanted an auto car and the GN seemed like the right car...something fast, auto, good on gas...20-26mpg from all I read. The guy who bought my car came from Louisiana and I had it all timed so that Id sell the cobra on jan. 1st and get the GN the next day. id have no down time. I buy the GN, and even though I noticed it wasnt running right, I was trapped and had to get it. My wife was being a pain and said theres no way in hell she was going to drive me to work for even a week.. 1st day of driving it, I go through almost half a tank in 1 trip to work and back. Well there goes the good mileage benefit....I was getting 6-8mpg cause the thing was so f'd up. (still to this day my mileage is 16-18) Then the next week we move the company and my boss hands me a transponder to take the 241 toll road....so the whole fear of the 5 freeway was based on nothing. He didnt bother to tell me that he was going to hook me up with that. I cant pass smog and it took every dime I had just to get the thing running ok. I also sold the novi 1000 and the intercooler...the whole system, to pay off taxes my wife owed, 6 months before I sold the cobra. A month after selling the system, my new boss hands me 5000 bucks as a bonus...so I sold the blower for nothing. Then I sell the cobra for nothing. Makes me sick thinking about it. 600hp with a live axle with 4.56 gears in a modular cobra that you shift at 7500rpm is an experience to say the least. Top it off with 20mpg. Its hard to beat.
