What does a Buick century 1995 3.1 neutral safety switch control, will it keep a trans from going into reverse?

it keeps you from starting the car in any gear besides park or neutral by breaking the circuit between the ignition switch and hte starter solenoid.
it also probably has the reverse light switch integrated into it, as well as maybe a switch to tell the computer that the trans is in "park" so you can't sit there and free-rev the motor into oblivion in park to do cool tranny drops.
