Update:
Next step is to degree the cam and check for piston to valve clearance. The heads have been cut .010" and the pistons are only .010" in the hole (about a .035" to .040" cut). With the larger valves, more duration & lift we will see what happens.

Aaron

Checked piston to valve clearance with no head gasket, cam retarded 4 degrees, and valve open about .020 on the base circle. I did this to give a "worst" possible scenario for piston to valve clearance but still had about .080 clearance. Next is get the cam degree'd in and keep on wrenchin'.

Keep the good work, At the end, give us the results. I want to built something like you.
With your pistons, the compression ratio expected?

Without any decking of the heads or block, those pistons are slightly less than 8:1

I have the pistons .010 below the deck (about .035 to .040 cut) and had the heads cut .010 and am running steel shim head gaskets (.020 compressed). The valves used also fill more of the chamber than a stock valve. I haven't cc'd the heads but I have calculated about 9.5 to 1 compression.

I will keep pics coming as I get more done!

I really want to do a blow-thru centrifugal supercharger eventually or even a blow thru turbo with the 86/87 plumbing but I am just curious what it'll do N/A. I is going to be N/A for a while so I can get it running and all and then I will most likely be putting an N20 plate system on it before the turbo or supercharger. I hope to have it running N/A for the last land speed racing event in Maxton, NC. I'll keep everyone up to date.

Haven't updated in a while, just haven't had a chance to snap pics and post them although I have made pretty good progress.

Engine is completely assembled and in the car. About the only thing I have left to do is make up the plug wires, install the carb, prime the oil pump and then fire it up. I will try to remember to snap some pics of the progress this weekend when I go out to work on it (car is 15-20 miles from where I live).

Hopefully I will be posting some video soon too!

Alright...here we go...finally got some pics. I decided to return the engine to original '81 GM Blue. I love it!! All I really have left to do is install the carb, run the fuel lines, drop the distributor in (the pics show my oil pump primer) and run the spark plug wires. Sorry about the gauge wires without wire loom around them, still got a little bit of cleaning up to do. Let me know what you think!

These are the $180 Hedmans that I painted with the DupliColor Silver Ceramic high heat paint. The paint will not be as good as a true ceramic coating but it's gotta be better than the black paint that comes on these things. The black paint will pretty much chip if you look at it wrong and will only hold up to about 2 minutes of heat.
