Mechanical Oil Pressure Gage Installation Question

Once the gage is installed, do I have to "bleed" oil through the line up to the gage ?

I never did. I hate the thought of oil making its way up the line into the car

Bleeding of the gauge will make the gauge respond more quickly since there will be less air to expand back and forth in the line. What the instructions never tell you is that the gauge has about 18" of line internal to it if its the Autometer type and that you can never really get rid of it all. I don't bother bleeding them.
