How long should I wait with my fresh motor? I got new heads and want to try em out. Igot 500 miles and 3 oil changes done.
Thanks
Tim

I break the cam in and change the oil (cut the filter apart and see whats in it) Heat cycle it 4 or 5 times and go racing.
Some people spinkle holy water on it after changing the oil 5 times and 1500 miles:cool: I say if its going to scatter its going to scatter..

if it cranks up it's ready to race..:D

after all its only a 1/4 mile strech not like your going for land speed record

For a race car it's ready. For a street car I wait till 1000 miles or more.. I just want to make sure the rings are seated very well b4 running it. I have a had every one of my motors smoke if I broke it in hard and none smoke if I was patient and waited. 500 you may be just fiine tho..

TO Be safe

I would wait about 700 to 1000 miles to make sure the rings seat properly.

But as others above have said can be true.. I have seen guys go right out to the strip & others wait till 2000k miles. Seems all methods work.
