How can you tell if the torqe convertor is going bad?

We just got the trans rebuilt and it is messing up. It is good going in reverse but bad when going foward. The trans place said it could be a number of things and he said it could be the convertor because he isn't the one that we got it from. It takes forever to get up to speed. I need to know ASAP cause we have to talk to the trans place tonight.

Thanks

Mike

A torque converter has no idea what gear the transmission is in. It works the same regardless of whether you are going forward or backing up.

If the transmission acts normally in reverse but is really sluggish in the forward gears, the transmission is to blame. Is your foot-brake stall speed the same in drive and reverse?

Thanks a lot.
The transmission place is saying that it was the convertor that was the problem, but that didn't sound right. The trans works perfect in reverse but going foward you have to rev it up to about 3500 rpms to get moving (still really slowly). The convertor is a 2800 stall. When it was working you couldn't really tell there was a stall. Now it seems like a huge stall going foward.

Thanks again,
Mike
