Electric fan installed.

Just got my new engine in a week ago and so far it's working good. Just taking it easy and cautious. Thought I'd share this with everyone:

Electric fan is in. Picked up a nice sized one off a pontiac 6000 from the junkyard -- $15 CDN w/rad support
The fan basically covers the ENTIRE rad (since our rad isn't very long). I'm very pleased with it, it blows a LOT of air (even turns the clutchfan when the car's off). Haven't gone over 165F yet (in the city or on the highway); granted it is fairly cool out.

Have it wired all properly now. Got a headlight relay from the store ($5), and wired it right off the alternator and have the relay activate with the radio (so I can run it in accessory mode), and a manual switch.

So far so good, Works well with the clutchfan for added airflow (throws a nice breeze over the engine engine too). With my new 4core rad and oil cooler, cooling is no longer a problem. But I guess the real test with be in the scorching summer heat. It's fairly cool out now (15 to 20 C).

If anyone's intereted in doing the same, I'd have no prob answering questions and can take more pics if necessary.

Do your engine a favor and remove the clutch fan. I can/t see it doing much without the factory shroud.

Less drag on motor = MORE POWER....

Take the clutch fan off...

Just use some short bolts w/washers to mount the pulley to the water pump...I think they are 5/16-24 threads(5/16 fine threads)...And use stainless so you won't have any problems removing them in the future due to rust...

You think so? Hmm, I agree the clutch fan is doing pretty much nothing to cool the rad. But it does increase airflow around the engine and it *might* even cool the turbo a little. Wouldn't you agree?

Right now I'm not too concerned about power. Just got the new engine in and taking things easy. But, do you think I'd actually *notice* a difference in power with it off? Any idea how much?

FJM: yea I've had the fan off before, and I can just screw the 4 nuts on to the pulley. No need for bolts... right?

that's what i did.it's gotta be worth a couple of horsepower,that fan's a friggin brick.

Yea it's a 4-core (4 rows of tubes between each tank). I think stock is 3core. A buddy in the local grand nat club knew someone who makes rads, he did it for a good price... I dunno if it's anything too special or non-standard, but I gave him my old one and he made this one from scratch based on mine. The tanks are also a lot bigger/wider. I couldn't fit my shroud over the rad because those rubber pieces were too small

So far it's cooling well.
