Digital dash lighting

I have an '87 with a digital dash. When I turn the headlights on, the instrument lights in the dash go dim, speedo, fuel, trip, etc. Also, my instrument lights in the center console and radio do not work as well. Any ideas as to what this is? Thank you in advance.

dont take this as me being a smart ass but do you have the dimmer turned down?

there is a fuse that may be bad.. it controls the dimming of the lights. i do not remember which fuse but i think it is a 10 amp. check your fuses. if your display is normal with lights off and then is about 1/2 bright with park lights or head lights on.
the digial dash receives a signal from light switch. then the brightness/dimming is activated.

I have looked, no fuses are blown but Bob, that is what it is doing. And money pit, thanks for response, but my dimmer isn't down. Haha. You have to state the obvious though.
