As the subject says: Should I box in my 6X9's? Will it help clear the sound, or project it better or anything? I'm not sure the number but I can get it, they are alpine 3 way 6X9's.

As with any bass or mid bass driver, an enclosure does help the bottom end sound out. It helps control the driver will it is playing lower frequencies verses open air and less control on excursion causing "bottoming".

I believe that most 6 x9's are designed for free air installations. However, if you have a sub in back definetly box them in. It will make the sub sound better and prolong the life of the 6x9's.

Foam baffles works very well too, but if you are "only" using 6X9's I would not suggest to "box" the 6X9's you will lose the bass.
