    b4black '82 GN project take 2

I had a thread call b4black '82 GN project. It's so old that the picture are all lost, so I'm starting it over. Soon after I bought my '82 GN back in 1990, I had an opportunity to buy another. I drove this second GN for just a few years, then the transmission went out and it sat - for a long...

Keeping stock dash speakers - should I use bass blockers?

I'm replacing the dash pad. While I have the stock speakers out, I was thinking of installing bass blockers to them. I have no idea what to get. Could someone suggest which to use? A link would be great! Thanks!

    Grouding strap

On both my '82s, there is a grounding strap from the firewall to the back of the driver's side head. It's about 13-14 inches long. Dorman 60213 is a very, very close match. You might be missing this strap...

Funky oil pump cover and two plates.

I pulled this off my motor last night. I saw it had a ¼" plate, so I figured it was high volume pump rebuild. I wasn't expecting the second ¼" plate. I guessing the odd angle of the pressure relief means this motor originally came from a Turbo Rivera.

Why are my heads stamped "GOODYEAR"?

I know this is a weird question, but maybe somebody knows something. These are V6 heads, casting 8445, ported and 'big valves'. They were installed on a short block I bought in Chicago. Both heads are stamper GOODYEAR. Any idea?

New engine, has a misfire ('82 Turbo GN)

This spring, I installed a new engine in my '82 GN. Great news is it starts, runs, etc. Bad news is it has a misfire. The engine was a used short block, to which ported heads and a roller cam were installed. At idle, it feels fine. In gear, it stumbles and misses. Feels pretty consistent...

Left head won't prime with oil

I purchased a rebuilt 4.1 a few years back and I'm finally ready to fire it up. I pulled the valve covers and I am priming the oil pump with a drill. It's getting oil through the right head and the turbo oil feed, but nothing on the left head. :( Engine has a new timing cover and a roller...

    Selling my '83 T Type

It's a great car. I need to sell because I spend too much time playing with it and then I don't get the two '82 GNs that I have been wanting to restore since forever ago. Runs and drives great. Needs nothing, but a new home. :)...

    1982/83 Chrome Elbow V6 Decal

There are two decals (emblems) being sold on ebay for the chrome elbow on the 1982 and 1983 Turbo V6. (Search 1982 Buick Grand National Decal) This first one is only $5, so I took a shot knowing it wasn't 100% correct. It's pretty close, but the top part of the arrow isn't long enough. More...

    Green connector? (Computer controlled carb/distributor)

What's this connector for? It comes out of the ECM wiring harness. I know it's for diagnostics, but I'm not sure if it's for timing or MC solenoid dwell....

    Chasing down a miss (HEI)

The other day while driving around, the engine started to miss. OK, no big deal, time for new plugs. That didn't fix it. So new wires...nope, still has a miss. Tried swapping the cap, rotor and coil with one from another car (all basically new). Still there. Now what? Could is be...

    HEI Spark Plug Wires

I put together this spreadsheet of some spark plug wire lengths. I figure some folks here might find it useful. The ACDelco replacements for the Buick V6 are much longer than stock. They were $33 on Amazon. MSD has some sets that are close, but are closer to $95/set. I went with the red...

Saw this advertised in Hemmings Muscle Machines as a new product. https://www.topstreetperformance.com/products/ignition/distributors/hei-distributors/hei-buick-even-fire-v6-oem-cap-distributor.html So it's been a while since I seen a non-ECM controlled distributor. It says easy one wire...

    The J&S Safeguard questions

Anybody using a J&S Safeguard? http://www.jandssafeguard.com/index.html Do you like it? Is it easy to set up? Just thinking out loud....trying to see if I can do away with the stock ECM on my '82. This would control knock retard and timing, right? Then use a traditional carb (non-CCC)...
