What rear tire for stock wheels to get traction

I currently have Nitto 275-50-15 tires on the rear of my GN. I'm using the stock 15x7 GN wheels and I like the look of them but I just can't get traction on the street. I take off from a light into boost and as soon as it hits 2nd gear the tires break loose. I run around 18-19 PSI in the...

Finally emissions free in AZ...new law

I don't have my 87 T anymore but my 87 GN is still insured as "Classic" and I don't have to go through emissions. I think the laws are the same as they were back when I posted this. As I had stated though probably not a good idea for a daily driver. Since I posted this years ago I have had to...

My 200r4 died today, anyone have a thought on what may have happened?

Just went through this. Here's what you most likely broke. Replace it with a billet one. Dave has the best billet replacement IMO, don't need to modify the input shaft.

Effect of tightening direct drum clearance

I just finished putting the trans (200-4R) in the car after taking it apart to replace the forward drum (shaft broke). When I checked the direct drum friction/steel clearance it was .096. I put thicker steels in and got the clearance to .060. When I get the car going is this difference in...

Turbo Heat Shield Cut Away For 3" DP ?

I think I have a template at home. It's for a THDP but should work for you. Can scan it in. When I cut my shield it was chromed. Put 2 or 3 layers of masking tape on it and used a sabre saw with fine metal blade. Worked great.

    200-4R OEM GN servo

Looking for a stock servo for a 87 GN 200-4R. Previous builder of my trans got rid of some the stock servo parts and I want to put in an adjustable billet one but need all the OEM parts.

    200-4R Servo Issue

I'm assembling my 200-4R and I'd like to replace the stock GN servo with a billet one but the previous builder removed some parts from the servo(spring, cup, etc) and replaced with washers/nut. Check out the pic. The billet servos I'm seeing come with a new piston, cover and some with...

    Assembling 200-4R, direct/forward drum question

Yep center support bolts are in so I guess there is supposed to be a gap between direct/input drum

    Assembling 200-4R, direct/forward drum question

I'm assembling my 200-4R. I put the forward drum into the direct drum and it took a little turning to get it seat. Putting both the direct/forward was another story. Took a few tries. I think I got it in and seated so I proceeded to install the center support. Center support went in OK, got...

    Soaking frictions in trans fluid

I know you are supposed to soak frictions in trans fluid overnight but does it hurt anything if you soak them longer. Let's say I plan on putting the trans together, soak the frictions but can't work on it for an other week or two so leave them soaking. I would think it wouldn't matter since...

Are the forward and direct steels the same

I understand what you're saying about using thicker steels. The ones I took out were .078,.078,.090, .090,.090,.090 so was going to start with that since the trans was fine. If you use .100's you would still have to use some thinner ones. Do steels come in all sizes? If so where do I get...

Are the forward and direct steels the same

I compared a forward steel and a direct steel and they appear to be identical in size other than the thickness. Can forward steels be used in the direct drum.

    Questions about 200-4R direct steels

Check out the pics. Can I reuse these steels or are they trash? The first 3 steels that go into the direct drum have a couple gaps where there are no teeth. Why is that and do those have to be oriented a certain way when they are put back in the drum? Should the gaps be lined up or staggered?
