    ESC/Distributor Queston

I purchased a distributor with the four wires that go to the ESC and a '78-'79 ESC seperately. The problem is, the wire colors on the distributor don't match the wires on the ESC, and all the diagrams show hook-ups by color. If anybody with a '78-'80 car could pull off the distributor cap and...

    Fuel Pressure Question

I'm using the stock in-tank electric fuel pump on the Turbo V-6 Vega project. Do I need more fuel pressure than that? Should I get a bigger electric pump, or run a mechanical pump with the electric pump? Thanks Dave

Rich, Do you have a 1980 4.1 Q-jet (federal) diagram you could send me? That's what is in the car now, and I have a couple mystery ports to connect. Thanks, Dave

    PEVR Test?

I'm trying to verify that the PEVR I obtained is working OK. I applied 15 lbs of vacuum from a hand vacuum tester to the manifold side of the valve. It held OK, so the diaphragm should be good. Then I tried to blow air through the one of the top ports on the carb side at a steady rate. My...

    ESC Question

The guy I was buying the '80 ESC from just told me it's actually an '81 P/N. That means it was used with the ECU. Anyone know if it's possible to use the '81 ESC as a stand-alone without the ECU? Thanks, Dave

    Where to Get- Turbo Balancer/Flexplate?

I've been looking for a new, stock replacement 3.8 Turbo balancer and flexplate-- I don't think I need to spend big $$$ for the level of street performance planned for my engine. Anyone know if they are still available, or am I going to be looking on eBay and the Message Board For Sale...

    Piston Question

Is there any way to tell the difference between stock non-turbo pistons and stock turbo pistons? I was told this engine had cast turbo pistons, but I'm not sure how to verify that. Also, what is the signifigance of the three notches along the radius of the raised area (outside the dished area)...

    PEVR-- Still available?

While inventorying my almost-complete '80 Turbo set-up, I noticed the PEVR is missing; and in fact the previous owner plugged the port on the manifold. Must not have used a Q-jet. Since I will be running a Rochester 17080242, I need to find a replacement PEVR. Ist this part still available...

    Carb Question

Next question: I originally lost an eBay bid on this carb. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2446475951&category=33550&rd=1 Now the guy who won decided he can't use it and want to sell it to me. I do have another Q-jet to provide replacement parts for those that...

Does anyone know if it's possible to retain the knock sensor and ESC while using the MSD-6 Boost Timing Master? If they woun't work together and I have to choose one or the other for detonation control, which do you recommend? Thanks, Dave

    Internal Engine Parts

OK, I've got the bug. I'm going to build a Turbo 3.8 to eventually replace my NA motor in the '77 Vega. I want to replace most of the lower rotating assembly; I need .030-over pistons, a Turbo/4.1 crank, main caps, bearings, etc. What vendors do you use to get your engine components from...

    What Carb?

Hi, thanks for letting me join. I'm building a V-6 Vega hatchback with a late-model (tall ports) even-fire 231 Buick. A friend and I are doing a parts swap, and he's giving me a cast-iron Q-jet spred-bore manifold. Problem is, I'm having a hard time finding the right size carb to mount...
