    When Carburetors Don't Carburate

Looks like the left side got pretty hot but no melting or seizing. All things considered, I'm surprised it wasn't worse. The Eagle crank looked perfect. Surprisingly, I didn't see any sign that debris went through the rod or main bearings. I still need to have those K1 rods checked for...

Why you should get your oil sampled and analyzed by a lab.

All good tips! The block was fully deburred the last time It went to the machine shop, and it wasn't shot braded or media blasted. Very little of the debris I've found would stick to a magnet. Nothing in the piston skirts, no scuffing on the piston walls. If you look at the iron in the oil...

100,000 mile engine service - a few questions

I played with the engine a little this weekend. I removed the rocker shafts, pushrods, lifters and cam for inspection. The cam journals and lobes looked perfect. Lifters look like new. Very happy with what I saw there. I dropped the pan and there was some muck in the bottom, but not too bad. No...

Why you should get your oil sampled and analyzed by a lab.

I got this oil report back after my last event of the season. Lead, copper and all the other metals spiked noticeably: Now, there was no noise from the engine. Oil pressure was great, 80 psi+ on startup, 30 at idle warmed up. But that huge spike is a big red flag, so I dropped the pan and...

    Engine condition

Engine is still in the car and was running well. Son and I decided to get into the top end to refresh it since we had Champion ported iron heads and champion intake sitting on the shelf along with Steve M 62mm TB/port matched plenum and injectors. All suggestions are appreciated, and as...

    Blown head gaskets....What next?

Yes, you have head debris and old cam gear pieces clogging your oil galleys. It needs to come apart.... No question..... ..

Left head won't prime with oil

Two problems with that statement. First, 'low mileage' is not a good thing when it comes to rebuilt Buick V6s. Every fresh rebuild I look at is a POS until it has a chance to prove itself. They either have problems right off the bat (like yours), or they last forever. Second, if...

    What am I working with?

If it's a 200 from another G-body, chances are it's not a true BRF valve body equipped trans, and it won't be calibrated for the turbo v6. Look on the trans for a metal ID tag before installing it in the car. If it's a non BRF trans, I wouldn't install it if it were mine. You will save yourself...

    Engine knocking after burn out

I agree with what ttypewhite and others have said. I would not start that engine again without having a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it. To me, it definitely sounds like bottom end damage is what's going on. Remember this, if it is in fact failed crank bearings (which I suspect after your...

NEW PRODUCT- Cam Sensor Balancer Kit from Richard Clark and Turbo Nasty

As mentioned in thread and videos some mechanical apttitude is required for this. Not saying you dont have it but if your not sure on the process then its best to let someone who possesses the skills to do it to keep from ruining the $400 part. Heres some tips.... First off if "Feet" on gear...

    Camshaft sensor gear toast

No No, cam sensor gears were good, the $22 tab that hold reluctor wheel broke. Inner portion of the balancer cylinder (?) cracked. Also found some of the large sprocket teeth mangled, so add new timing chain set to the list. Didn't find anything in the oil pan, gonna cut the oil filter open...

(Cam) Lobe Woes (with New Motor)

...I told him the history of what happened. I told him how I saw lots of black debris in the oil before I ever changed it (at 100 miles after I got it). He said that was most likely the cam debris. That debris was *why* I changed the oil. And once I changed the oil, I never saw any other debris.

    Trouble starting fresh engine rebuild

I beat my head against the wall trying to start this engine. It is a stock build with a mild cam. I finished it up many months ago. Had spark Had fuel pressure Had injector pulse Rechecked cam sensor timing. Good Ran a compression check and found compression very low on all cylinders. WTF...

(Cam) Lobe Woes (with New Motor)

He's unable to comprehend that the material missing from the cam lobes was circulated through the engine. :wtf:

(Cam) Lobe Woes (with New Motor)

Keep in mind this is the 2nd oil change. The filter from the change at ~100 miles probably had debris in it. But Nick's suggestion that it was a defective cam got me thinking. But let's review a couple of facts. I noticed the black debris within the first week of getting the car back...

(Cam) Lobe Woes (with New Motor)

I've read this thread, most of the bad advice, most of the flat out wrong data, and was forced to skim the last two pages and I felt dumber for what I read. That being said, there's a few rules for building a flat tappet buick V6 engine in modern times. First) a flat tappet camtrain belongs...

(Cam) Lobe Woes (with New Motor)

I'm no expert, especially in the Buick realm. However, I do know that the metal from your wiped lobes just went everywhere that your oil has been. So in every oil galley, behind the cam bearings, every crack and crevice imaginable, it's all contaminated now. Basically everywhere where your...

(Cam) Lobe Woes (with New Motor)

I was curious. The cam I pulled out and threw away looked way better. His filter looks perfectly clean. I remember those cam failures and the first non billet roller fiasco too. Main reason I kept my stock cam so long. Looks like this one turned out ok.

(Cam) Lobe Woes (with New Motor)

The "wrong data" is Earl's opinion which was stated as facts. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, which is what he posted. About 1/3 of the Buick V-6 engines we build, about 3-5 a month, go out with a flat tappet hydraulic cam and they do the job fine for their life. The cam in question...
