The seat thread. What do you use and why?

My stock seats are really comfy, but as they are bench seats, provide no lateral support. Also, they are only 41K miles old and have been taken care of so I'd like to keep them that way. I plan on removing them, wrapping them in plastic and storing them and putting a decent set of seats in their place. I AM on a budget, trying to spend 4 bills or less on a set of reclining seats with sliders. I can fabricate the mounting bracket, so I'm not concerned with that.

What I'm looking for is good lateral support, and I'm not a big guy, only 5'8" and 185 lbs, and comfortable enough to take a 3 hour trip in the car for $400 a set or less. I'd also like them to be relatively easy to get in and out of, especially the passenger side, so the Mrs doesn't throw a fit.

What are you using and why? Pros and cons of the seat you've chosen would be great.

Not racing road courses but installed Corbeau seats. They have the manual sliders and adapters that bolted right in. I bought the seats at swap meet for $300 and had the gray centers added at local upholstery shop. BTW, just had the rear seat reupholstered with horizontal creases to match front.

I have NRGs.

But I have to recommend a Corbeau or Sparco or Recaro, or a GM OE seat from a newer car that you can make fit.

The reason is the recline hinge. If you get down below ~$600/seat new, you're likely buying a knockoff (like my NRGs) that hasn't been properly crash tested. In a rear-end collision, the seat hinge will break and you end up in the back seat. That's what you're paying for with the higher-end seats, the testing and reinforcement.

Like flbuick, if you're sharp and keep your eye out, you can snatch a deal on a name-brand. My NRGs were $600 new for the set of two. They keep me from breaking the tilt steering mechanism while racing, but you can tell they're not built like an OE seat or a Recaro.

My car is apart right now but i was using my leather 45/45 split bench in the autocross. I had kick panel speaker pods i made that i would brace my foot against lol. Comfortable and while not as bad for autocross, they were far from great. I now have a set of Lear Sieglers that will look factory while being comfortable and offering much more support. I had them in another car and they offer a lot of support.

Re-replying.

I was at the NSRA Nats this past weekend, there was a guy at the swap meet selling a pair of lightly used Recaros for $650. For the pair.

So the deals are out there.
