Am I being too critical?

i had these upper panels made from some pallex I had and the company that made them ran the fabric the wrong direction. I know beggars can't be choosers with these cars but they were very expensive and took almost 3 months to make. Maybe they'll be up for sale soon idk..

I don't think you are being too critical. You pay good money you expect something to be done correctly. Have you contacted whoever made them to see if they will redo/compensate you for it?

I'm hoping you reviewed the job with the fabricator. if not, the fabricator should have seen how the original was done. don't want the fabricator to whine, "you never told me the fabric was directional" even though they are working from an original door panel.

either way, I would have no problem asking how to make it correctly. the workmanship looks good. i just don't know how to correct this as the pallex has already been cut, fitted and sewn.

How noticeable is it when it's in the car? Doesn't seem that anyone would notice. All they might notice is that you have very clean and new door panels. Did you provide enough material to install the pattern as the original piece?

I haven't installed them yet. I didn't want to put holes in them in case they want them back or I sell them. They do look really nice. pallex has a diamond pattern that runs vertical on the seats and horizontal on the door panels.

If your current upgrades/modifications are reversible (no drilled holes anywhere, not cuts in sheet metal, all original components in labeled bags and boxes) and you actually plan to reverse them to restore the car to "spot-on factory stock" for a big dollar sale one day, then yes! Make him do them over or sell them and have them done again.

If this is not a realistic possibility, or maybe even impossible, and if you plan to own it forever, and you plan to drive it, then leave it. Because the grain looks better up and down anyway.

Why did it take 3 months? My guy (local guy 2 towns away) made mine from scratch in only a few hours. Dropped off my interior in the morning and he called me that afternoon to take a look at them.

I'll probably never sell it. But I like to keep it as original appearing as possible. I would like to know why it took so long also. I hate being that guy asking "is it done yet". but I guess I will next time. I wonder if all GNs had the fabric running horizontal? Mine and my friends car are the same. It was probably calculated to leave the least amount of waste doing it this way.

If you ask how long ahead of time, you then have a reason to bitch later when he can't produce. Of course, there is a certain amount of unforeseeables that can be forgiven. But I'm in the construction business, after they use up their excuses, we then begin to use the term "F$CK'N LIAR" as the standard farewell before we hang up the phone and drive over to their shop or office.

After this last email from them. I'm about there now. I'm waiting a day to calm down a little before I call them. I'll be sharing this experience in the feedback section shortly.

No, They were delivered on Friday. I was debating saying something or not.

No one can get a problem solved if they don't speak up. SPEAK UP! Most companies will make sure your problem will be fixed. ONLY if you speak up. Don't be a weenie! Go for it! Get it solved. Get what you PAID for! Nothing wrong with that at all......

My wife and I ALWAYS speak out when something is not right with a product.....99% of our problems were positively taken care of. Trust me.

For example: I paid a hell of a lot of money for ONE front side exhaust cover from a Corvette company....it had one little tiny defect in the chrome....most would never notice....I did! It was EXPENSIVE. I wanted it perfect. I wanted what I PAID for, without defects! Contacted the Corvette company, they paid for return of the cover and sent me a perfect one! They've done that a few times for me. Talk about a great company that cares about customers. As most of our vendors here on this site, they'd do the same thing.
