Lock up converter switch for convenience.

So I've rumaged through the lockup switch threads from the past. I need to know whats best for my situation. I just got Scots GNS cluster set. The speedo is electric and GPS activated. There is a fix for the lockup using the speedo cable { it is the only use for the cable now} but for highway driving applications would it be ok to install a small toggle close so I can lockup just for the highway use. Then I can delete the cable all together. As of now it locksup even in town when not needed. Thoughts?

Depending on what chip you are running the speed sensor is used for more than just converter lockup. What chip do you have in the computer?

I thought TT chips didn't lock the converter until 50 mph unless you requested something lower. That chip also uses speed for other functions. I'm not familiar with the speedometer setup on the GNS cluster. I'm assuming it's using a pulse generator on the speedo cable. The converter should not be locking up driving around town at lower speeds unless maybe you have a bad lockup solenoid.

It does use the old pulse generator, at least when Scott walked me thru mine. Im thinking you have a different problem and reason for the lock-up your getting.

Yes that is correct. Initially I wanted to just do completely away with the speedo cable function altogether and lockup the converter on the highway with a switch. Since the GNS speedo is electric and gets the MPH from the supplied GPS antenna
the only use of the cable now is to run the pulse generator for the lockup function. Of course after much thought I realize I would have to stay on top of turning the lockup on and off manually which seems like a lot of work so I've removed the pulse generator from the speedo housing and will use it for the lockup function as per Scots instructions.
