Thanks for the tip ....

Anyone have any idea how to get this thing off? Clearly I don't have a key or even see a key hole.

I believe that might be one of the fairly desirable "Steadfast" units.

If I recall correctly... The section along the top where the sticker / tape is, is where the pins that join it together are located. Don't think it was designed to be removed once it is installed. It protects the ignition switch & the linkages inside the column from being accessed & Jimmied.

You might consider it a gift & enjoy the extra level of security.

My car came with one as well. I am leaving it, but I wish I could remove it to paint it to match the interior

It's put together with roll pins. I remember installing mine. I would guess you can remove it gently with a punch and some finesse.

You will need to drill out the roll pins to get it off .

Remove the tape. Use small punch and hammer to remove pins. Try to locate the missing piece around the tilt lever. Even if you can't find it, place in a box and send parts to me for proper disposal.

Thank you,
Turboelky.

the cap at top is only drilled on one side for the the roll pins to go in , you'd need to drill a hole on the opposite side to be able to push pins through , or get the paint from kirban and paint it .
the steadfast collar you had to pry the original chrome tabs off the old the ign lock , if you do remove it and keep it off you'll need to replace the lock cylinder

Yep, I forgot the tape is there to cover the big holes for the locating pins, and roll pins only went through one side. Mine has been off, and the other column in one of my cars, someone unsuccessfully tried to cut it off. Leave that thing on your car and just paint it like pacecar said.

Mask it off and squirt some paint on it. Or if it is that much brush the paint on. It doesn't come off easily, which I why it works.
