The pump and hanger looks corroded to me? Does the tank look like that too?

Makes me think of the grey sludgy looking stuff left over when metal comes in contact with something acidic or corrosive.

I've seen this same crud on the inj filter baskets.....I bet the inline filter, and the inj baskets are "nice", too.
With that much crap in the tank, I think it's system cleaning time. What kind of hoses are you using?
That looks like the corn was not washed, before refining...:jawdrop:
My still puts out the "everclear" quality.

Teflon Braided e-85 lines (both) new fuel tank, sending unit & injectors all within past 18 months! Fuel in tank is clear, my supply stored in a/c office is also clear. Curious as to where the black film is created & how?? New socks on the way, may have to change my socks more often

What filter element and what micron are you using in the fuel filters?

How many fuel filters are in the fuel system? Where are they located? (pre-pump, post pump, etc etc..)

Do I get to say "I called it" now, in looking at your other thread? :D

2 stainless Russell filters 40 micron. 1 at the pump (as the feed line leaves the tank) and 1 right before the rail. I will let you know when I put it back together (y)

Is the filter at the pump pre-pump, or post-pump?

Are you running a stock fuel tank?

What type of filter element is in it?

What is the size of the filters? (overall, outside dimensions)

EDIT: Do you monitor your fuel pressure?

Not sure how much fuel you consume, but I would absolutely shocked if that little Russel filter cause zero pressure restrictions and still filtered the fuel as well as it should.

IMO- replace those filters with something that actually flows well and has a lot of surface area for the filter media.

Yea... I have attached a photo of the filter element in your fuel filter..

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that those filters *probably* aren't doing the best job at filtering your fuel system... and more than likely are causing some pressure increases as well..

but hey, I could be totally wrong. This is all speculation afterall.

This is both socks, and the fuel filter after my first year on e85. I ran Leaded fuel for 10 years prior. Dirty sock was for the main pump which was also lower in the tank.

DW stepped up!! He wanted me to send back my pump so they could research the black sooty film! They sent a new pump under warranty and all is well. Injectors were cleaned on the car and seem fine.(y)

And that is why we put DW pumps on cars .. they stand behind their product fully .. try that with a WALBLOW .. out of 140 + pumps .. only seen 1 go back for warranty claim and it was a installation error that caused it ... Great pumps

This filter is what I tried on my inj bench...ABSOLUTELY insufficient.
So bad in fact, that I had to clean it about every 3 sets of injs. And this is w/ flow fluid, not corn liquor.
It's been thrown away, and 2 large filters put in place.
