Best Paint Choice to Match Factory Black?

I have a 1987 GN with original paint that I would like to do some touch up on. I had a body shop do some minor work a few years back and it looks brown under certain lights. I would like to fix this.

What is the best choice of paint for a correct black that is as close to original as possible to do some touch ups?

I have wondered about this also and am facing a similar problem. Original paint that needs some light repair work thanks to some kids that decided to throw eggs at the car.
I know many people will say black is black but I have a hard time believing this when I can see slight differences when comparing other cars. Would be good to hear from anyone else that had experience with getting a small area done and matched to original paint.

Automotivetouchup.com has the black that matches our paint code. They sell it in different sizes.

Many places sell paint that matches the paint code. The problem is the paint may not match the car because of the type of tints that are used in a particular brand of paint despite the code. I was more or less looking for a brand of paint that someone knows is a close match to original without looking too far off such as being too brown, green, blue or some other off color hue.

Well, I bought some and will be using it soon so I'll let you know how well it matches. I'm only doing some minor touch up though.

PPG would be their black mixing toner with nothing else. It would be in solvent form either dbu 9700 or dbc 9700 paint. That is toner dmd664 or dmd1683

Could be on the right track. Is the PPG pure black? Anyone know what paint product or manufacturer GM used as a supplier for their paint in 1987?

Many body shops have a camera that will spec the paint to match. I don't know anything about body work but is that worth a try?

hello, would like to continue this conversation if possible about matching or correct paint for my 87 GN I picked up a few months ago. It is in pretty good shape 68K interior real nice but it was painted and some areas needed work, no rust but some areas were peeling etc turns out for a little more money were painting the whole car. Ok so they jambed the doors today and the body shop called said its has a blue tint to it? they used paint code on the car but shouldn't it be pure black? What should I do? going to look at it tomorrow. thanks

THIS.^^^^^^

Also, PPG BMW 668 is a great color if you're painting the whole car.

Every original paint GN I've seen, including mine has a small amount of metallic red in it. I worked as a lot attendant at a local Buick dealership from 90-95. I remember the salesmen there telling me that some of their customers who bought GNs wanted them repainted because they thought they were covered in overspray.
