Heat Shield

My hood liner is long gone and I want your thoughts on protecting the paint on the hood from excess heat from the turbo. Is an aluminum plate enough to deflect it or should I be using a blanket and wrapping the down pipe? My dp hasn't been built yet but but it will be a stainless 3 inch and I don't want to cover it in fear of it crumbling through heat cycling but if it helps lower under hood temps I would consider it. What's everyone else doing to control engine bay temps

Get a shield from Mark for sure. I put some heat mat between that and the hood liner and it was fine

I seen them. He won't ship to canada so I'll make one no biggy. Now I'm wondering if the heater box shield is necessary or one behind the turbo to protect the firewall.

Ok, sorry to hear they won't ship it. One is for to protect the heater core hoses to the coolest line's mounted to the turbo bracket right. Also the vacuum lines.

You wouldn't have any pics by chance? For some reason my shield won't fit on the heater box. The valve covers are in the way. I replaced the motor mounts thinking that was my problem but it didn't solve it. It's a heat only box pulled from a cutlass but the stock 82 turbo box had the same clearance issues.

I'm not using the turbo bracket coolest lines, I got my heater hoses running straight from heater core to the water pump. I never reinstalled it. I think I got pics of it on my desktop computer.

I was going to do that but I couldnt route them nice enough. Maybe I'll make one of them at the same time or get some thermal hose wrap.

I just installed a stock SFI style aluminum valve cover on my '82. They are a little taller around the edge than the stamped steel covers. It wasn't hitting, but very close to the HVAC heat shield. There's a bolt right at the valve cover and shield bulges out right there. I trimmed that section off. I figure the shield is needed for the downpipe, not the valve cover. Plus there are still four bolts to hold the shield in place.

Im starting to think my body bushings are a little sagged lol. I took my steelys off when I converted it from the carb to sfi and there was no way I could fit the ps aluminum cover. I think I will just hack up a spare shield one like you did. I pulled the ac out and put a heat only box in thinking it would help but it didn't. How the heck do people fit tall covers for roller rockers.
