On Center Build questions

Okay another question as far as ring gaps . What is the optimum gap for a 4.060 bore for my motor ? My block will be assembled next week :)

He is about to balence he has to throw 100grams in it . Here is my card

I'd shoot for somewhere around .025" on the top and 2nd ring.

Chris,

Just as a question, what does your engine builder or machinist recommend?

I'm going to talk to him Monday about it . He had to add 100 grams to balence the crank so that should be done and finally Assy should take place on mon tue

Just got my oil pan I'm going to use today . It's going to need alil moding but should work well .

Looks good man. Those hood shocks are off, turns out one leaks though. Yours if you want them

I will take them . I have a gig tomorrow in Long Beach I could stop by after or whenever. Pm me your cell and I'll give u a call bud thank you . Also is there anything u need ? I just acquired abunch of parts so let me know

Well picked up my short block . On my lunch break . Now to get it home and on the stand and check her out and snap more pics

So I got her home and mounted on the stand here are some pics. I need to figure out how many cc my dish pistons are to figure out my compression . Also I have a 3.625 struck with 6.500 rods and my piston is down in the hole .125. Is this normal? I would think the would be close to even with the deck surface with that stroke and rod. I need to talk to the guy who I got the Pistons from for more info . So I have had the machine shop drill and tap the holes for my gear drive. The cam is a NA cam and was used for mock up . I still am up in the air on going with it or a chain .

Hopefully you have determined what heads and head gaskets were you planning to use, and approximately what static compression ratio that you are aiming for. There is some math involved. For example cometic has the .060 gaskets that could dramatically ( decompress ) change your numbers , when the .020 may bump your compression up and maybe allow the valve to just kiss the piston. I would ask the engine builder for the info about the pistons. I may be wrong but .125 in the hole seems like alot. There are some great engine builders on here and I am sure that they will chime in with some very useful info. Make sure that the gear drive is spot on, I sold a brand new unassembled stage 2 , everything was brand new, they had everything machined and installed a gear drive set up and somehow destroyed a twin turbo motor on a 7 second car. He claimed it was his set up on the gear drive . I have a motor with a Milidon gear drive ( I didnt set it up) and I have a motor with the chain, I would love to buy a Danny Bee belt driven setup for my new motor when I get to that point. Thanks very much for keeping us posted on your build.

Chris,

.125" in the hole with a 3.625" stroke and a 6.5" rod is just about impossible. Are you sure about this? I just did some back of the envelope math and your compression height would have to be 1.102 or there abouts which would put the wrist pin into the 2nd ring groove.

That would mean a thin crown on the piston dish correct. Closer to a NA style piston.

Hopefully he means .025" in the hole .. if its .125" .... ISSUES galore

Well it is .125 . So a order the right pistons . The piston from that I bought from this board he swar that theses would be perfect with my entire rotating assemble . Any way we shall see how to work this out . I'll tell u one thing it will be worked out one way or another
