Having my 87 gn painted in July, any advice or recommendations as I begin this process? My ttop trim is really bad, can that be painted? What about the bumper trim its dull as well? I while back I purchased some cheaper rear bumper fillers and they look fine but should I invest in a better set? Thanks in advance!
Patrick

Spool fools on the fillers.
Look up a paint called all kandy.(wet, wet, clear)
I found rustolum spray paint for bbq the same color black as trim .hope this helps also look up mikes Montes he sells some rubber seals for the tops.

Thanks. Car goes in the shop Sunday for paint. I ordered new dew sweeps. Do most paint shops remove all the badging? also should I have him paint the bumpers as well? Thanks guys

I recommend doing the trim in a "trim black." as the factory did. SEM carries the exact factory match or you can wheel on in to Advance or Auto Zone. They carry a trim black that works well also.

In regards to the emblems and trim. It makes a much better paint job if you remove these items. You will see a hard paint line around these components if you don’t. It will drive up the cost of the paint job if the shop just quoted you to tape everything off versus R&I (remove and install) the needed necessary components.

I like this one, it works well and is a little cheaper than SEM. Painted all the trim on my car and still looks great after 10 years.

Has anyone tried a 2k satin (not flat) black? I'm wondering if it would be more durable than a single part paint.

The metal bumpers are same as the car. High gloss. Grill would be trim black- same as head light bezels, wheel mlds, window mlds, tail light trim. This is assuming you have a GN

Bought the Dupli color trim paint to paint the headlight bezels, Do I need to use primer on those first or just paint over them with the black trim paint? Also I have the gta black wheels and they need refinishing is that something I could tackle myself? Thanks in advance

Is the paint peeling on the bezels?

I use wax/grease remover, soapy scrub, Scotchbrite, then a light mist of SEM plastic prep.
I then go w/ a light tack coat, and then 2 more to make even coverage. The durability is enhanced the longer you let it cure b4 installing.

Thanks chuck, did that process on the bezels of cleaning and painted using the Dupli color bumper and trim paint and they turned out really nice! Can I use this same paint to paint the trim piece on my t-tops?

I wouldn't try those honey comb wheels on your own. You're bound to end up with runs in some spots and dry spots in other areas.

Have a reputable alloy wheel repair company powder coat the centers and re-machine the outside rings. You shouldn't have to pay more that $100 per wheel. you won't believe the difference it will make.

Alloy Wheel Repair and Dent Wizard have wheel repair/remanufacturing franchises throughout the country. I prefer Dent Wizard, but that's because of a personal issue. Don't let that influence your decision, they are both very good at what they do.

Dent Wizard did these wheels on a BMW project I have going. It was about 3 months ago and I drive the hell out of the car.

I've also found Transtar Trim Black to work/match very well with GN/TR black out package trim.
