ive been poking around reading in this forum for quite a while. Now I've finally decided that I'd like to get a Turbo Buick. While I'm always big on more power my primary focus for use will be excellent handling in the road. I've been looking at a few cars but I think it's time to get an education from the folks on this forum before I mess up too badly.

Look forward to talking shop and learning.

Thanks
Rob

Rob,
If you're looking for something to handle like a Porsche and stop on a dime, this may not be the car for you.
However, if you want something that will most likely go up in value, that's relatively quiet, decent gas mileage (even by today's standards), cruise, air, comfy ride and be able to lay waste to most anything it encounters, then you've come to the right place.:)

Best to get with some of the locals in your area for any deals or tips. I'd definitely want to see something before I bought it.;)

Let us know what you find or if you have any questions.

Oh, my expectations are no where near that. I saw one in a magazine that had some work done to imrove the hanling and stance of the car. According to the owner it made the handling much better, does that mean great handling, nah. However, I'm a big fan of suspsension and brake improvements along side my performance.

I also have a pari of 996 GT cars (GT2, GT3) both 04's so we're covered there.

There's a guy near me who has a car I'm going to see. It's an 87 WE4/WO2 car that he claims there aren't a lot of. 70k mile and the body looks good interior front seats not good but runs really nice. He sent me some photos and a video and I'll go visit him this week to see it in person.

Kool!
Keep us in the loop. Take your time and get the cleanest one you can find. The fixer-uppers can nickel and dime you to death.

Yeah my next post was going to be about what to look for when buying a GN. I'll do a search first to see if there's a guide. I'm just looking for the GN specific stuff and not the what to look for in a 30 year old car.

Thanks again!

Welcome!

I am of the opinion that nothing drives like one of these cars. Whenever I hit the gas...the sound of the turbo spooling up, the pressure of my @$$ being pushed into the seat, I cant help but have a sh*t eating grin on my face. I enjoy the semi-luxurious ride it offers which feels nothing like any of the sport suspensions that are found on most performance cars. As Mike mentioned though, 'Handling' is not something the cars naturally excel at. I don't think I have ever been comfortable enough to stay on the accelerator as a bend in the road approaches, but I am not the hellcat I used to be either. Your expectations should be set that the body/suspension isn't inherently 'sporty'. While modifications can help make it more stable, I dunno if there is a ceiling to what handling performance can be achieved and how that would align with your goals.

As you search for a car, take your time. Lots of good info on this board helped me to identify the right car for me when I bought mine. While the right car will bring much joy and happiness, the wrong car can be a money pit of infinite depth the likes of which you have never seen hehe. (Okay they are all money pits but we love them anyway haha)

Good Luck In your search!

My expectations are modest on the handling side. I thought I would just do some modernization and that would give it better stance and handling. Handling is a tough word to use because I'm sure it doesn't really at all, but some modern suspension components and brakes should improve the quality and safety of the ride.

My initial thought is some modest performance improvements but if my history is a guide that'll change before I own a car. I love things that burn gas and are boosted. I even did a custom turbo on my monster built Harley motor. It just screams.

Nice boosted Hawg.

Suspension/handling is the EASY part from my personal experience. Check out TR Custom Parts and Kirban and chew their ear off.
