Just bought an 80 Monte Carlo 3.8 turbo. There isn't a lot of information out there on this set up. Is the turbo the same as the ones on SFI cars, what type is it. Garett, Borg Warner...etc. Has anyone had luck using a Holley or ederbrock carburetor instead of a quadtrjet, or even a fast EFI. Are the mods for the engine (valve springs..etc the same as SFI cars. I know a bunch about the GNs and THIs but not much about the carb turbo arrangement.

All of the stock turbo Buick cars use a T-3 Garret design. There are upgrades available for them. Rich's site has a bunch of info on them and you might check gnttype.org for additional info. Welcome to the board.

Not turbo related but related to the turbo Montes, I helped my boss break up one of these cars 25 plus yrs ago and it had an aluminum hood and trunk, which I thought was pretty cool at the time.

I too just bought a turbo monte that i am having to put back together from a trunk full of parts....@$!&! But I am slowly making progress. Would love to talk to you on the phone some time to go through some of the vacuum lines and various engine related problems I am having

Seems like everyone with a carb turbo is a black sheep in this community.
My Regal is mistaken for a Monte all the time. No badges on the car I guess.
