Fuel sender improvements

Any ideas or experiences making our delicate fuel senders better for the task we put them to? Better wiring (aside from hotwire), grounds at unit or pump, fuel level float system and any other area that could use improvement. When installing upgraded pumps with sock it is a tight fit any ideas?

Since we seem to be stuck using the factory design I'm hoping there are some improvement / modifications that have worked for everyone.....any repsonses are appreciated

While there are new and better designed fuel pump hangers/sender assemblies available. They still wind up using the stock fuel gage which is prone to corrosion and faulty readings. That is one item that really hasn't been improved on.

I had thought about adapting a later model wiper to the old float arm, most gm's are still the same resistance. I just never got around to it.

Not so much concerned about gauge accuracy (that ship has sailed) but the overall improvement of the wiring, ground system and basic hanger design. Seems there are no real good aftermarket options so we must do it as we see necessary?

We have been working on a complete new sender for about a year, and hope to have the first batch done in a month.

We will have 2 versions, a single and a double pump unit, either rubber hose connections or AN fittings and wiring included.

Here is an early version:

Is this designed for the DW 300 to mount and plug w/out modification? They take some work to put in a stock style! Looking forward to seeing the finished product!!!

The stock-type electrical connector is subject to corrosion, and the slip connector is not a good method to pass electrical current, as we will use bulkhead connectors for much better reliability and performance.

Of course we will also have better and heavier gauge wire than stock. The off-shore stock replacement sender use inferior wire in most cases, we will use Mil-spec wire and connectors.

Again, another early pro-type features our wiring concept:

We plan to supply the sender with or without a pump or pumps, but the unit is designed to fit a DW, Walbro, Denso or similar in-tank pumps.

The 400 series from the above mentioned brands will allow one pump to bridge the gap in increased HP levels especially for street cars to not need 2 in-tank pumps in the 500-600 HP level.

We will have dyno and field test results soon to verify HP limits of the 400 version pumps in lieu of double pumps.

Until these are available we are dealing with Spectra replacements on our field cars........... any thoughts as to better what we have? Ground from sender base to bat? Would you drill / secure or solder / weld new wires to achieve the goal? Seems like a breakdown between pump & sending unit creating a failure?

Nick,

Wow, those look nice....great job.

Any chance of bringing a couple of the prototypes to Bates? :D

I'd love to check out a double pump setup with AN fittings...

My plan is to have both versions at Bates for the first public introduction of the SuperPumper I and SuperPumper II!

The final product will be much revised over the proto-types pictured above, and will have additional features not shown here as we have brought the antiquated stock-type hanger/sender into the 21st. Century. :)

That looks like the pump and hanger we are using in my brothers car. Been working great thus far.

Fantastic! And thank you for your commitment to developing products for our turbo Buicks...

Wish these were available now. Could've used one last weekend. Just put a Spectra in my GN. That was fun... First the pump plug wasn't for a Walbro. So I had to cut up a $110 part. Then it wouldn't fit in the hole. The sender body (if that's what I can call it) was about 1/4" wider than the original I took out. So we had to bend it. Then the float arm wouldn't work properly so we had to adjust that. It works but its not 100% accurate. But I have a fuel gauge that works now so thats all that matters.

Bump, im trying to buy dw300 pump with a sending unit if possible.

My sending unit is shot.

Or im going to buy the sending unit from advance auto, but its a spectre. Anyone have any experience with spectre sending units?
