rjc 9 second recipe help

You are in a very unique position. If you don't have a Buick yet, buy a 9sec GN for a quarter of the price that you can build one for, that has already been tuned etc. You will be lite years ahead with LOTS of coin to spare and less headaches. There is a certain level of pride building one,"IF" the understanding is there and money is not a concern, but who are we fooling........... Money is always a concern, nobody likes losing or wasting it.
The best feeling in the world is driving one that is built and tuned correctly. No better feeling then that, PERIOD!! With the money you save on buying a already done piece, use it to personalize the car to YOUR likens (ie: different paint job, rims and rubber, suspension, sound system, interior changes, etc)
Well said ttypewhite :D

Buy a vette and put a turbo on it!

Buy a Vette??? Seriously?? I love those cars, but reliable.......... hell no. We have a couple Vette shops up here, and when the shops are not busy they have a customer appreciation days with their 1000rwhp Supercharged and turbo charged Vettes. The next day, the shop is packed with carnage. IMO they are not made for track duty. You will spend way more lute building a Vette, then you will have a 1000hp car running bottom 10's high 9's with lots of driveline failure. I'll take my chances with the GN. Too many of my friends have felt the pinch of hopping up a Vette.

Here's a good one for ya. We had a Vette shop rent the track for all the Vette guys a couple years ago with big hp. The fastest car that day was my Buick with no 3rd gear running 9.72 @ 116mph. lol

It would be more reliable than a 1980s car, hey I love my T Type but any modern car would be more reliable in my opinion. You put 1000rwhp to any car there may be carnage!

For real?!?!?! A Vette?!?!?! Get real. No offense but Vette's are what you buy after you get a hairpiece and a cheerleader girlfriend. I've seen so many Vette's trash parts on the strip...it's not even funny...only difference is....it cost thousands and thousands to repair.
Even if the initial cost wasn't absurd...they still require almost a complete rework to make it hold up.
They are not going to blow away any properly built Buick...no way no how.
If Dave Sapper reads this...he'll tell you. He has a few Vette's. He built a totally custom GN with a "mild" engine and could not believe how it would run circles around his Vette.
I am not a Vette fan...and won't ever be. If you really want something that's fast and fiberglass...buy a Ranger Bass Boat!!!

Back when I was in the car business one of my wholesalers showed up with a turbo vette.... My car was running an honest 13.3 (on the street) at the time and I drove right up under the back of it.

It did sound good as hell with two big carbon cans on the back though. I'll give it that. (made a bunch of money selling it to a bald guy trying to add a couple inches too. LOL)

SlowGN... I never heard that before, But it sounds awesome, that saying.... Let me get this straight, you are doing 9's on pump and Alky and those tires.. that sir is, Sweet... Slow, if you don't mind to answer What do you think is the biggest asset the car has to make it run Nines?? If you don't mind answering. I would love to see video

I think the biggest asset to running 9s is the parts combo works well . Along with the tune as i have been tuning it since 2010 . There simply is nothing secret or magical with my combo. Hell the rear suspension is stock boxed units with a hr anti roll bar .

I don't have a vid of nines but there is one on YouTube from Bg where I went bottom tens. the nines pass was just a tad bit more boost and fixing a ignition problem

Just FYI video not working...;););)

TUNE TUNE TUNE!!!!!!!!

Like said already start slow ,and take small steps!!!!!

These guys are nuts ..... Expensive to go fast ..YES.. that's not new. Do you need all the latest greatest witch piss to go fast ? fukc NO ! I have personally watched ( and driven) cars with the latest greatest offshore parts fly to pieces just as easy as stock parts. Now you want to go 8's on stock stuff no.. you want to go 10's NO PROBLEM ! that's been happening since 1989. I have been 10.50's on 100% stock longblock. manifold to oil pan. Many many passes.
My advice stop reading about turning cranks and piston rings. Start reading about tuning. tune tune tune and you can can run circles around Billet this, stroker that, blah blah bank account. Just plan it out, take your time. Be realistic.
He said 9 sec car not 10.50. Wonder how many times that flexing stock crank will go 9's?

The new engine here is on a stock crank, oli rods ,je's, all 4 billet caps, running the 76 dbb turbo it put down 752/912tq so yes I will see you in the 9's with a stock crank.

Just for refrence this guy does not toss endless money into the car.. I don't have it. If I was planing to be sub 9.0 I would be building a stroker or stage motor. .plus endless chassi shop money UGH

Lastly the thread starter does not even know own a car or know basic engine specs, What I was quietly try to state is if you dropped him into a mid 10 sec car he would probably be way more than Happy. More than a few times people stop in and say my this ,my that blah blah 10 sec big block yada yada then they take a ride with me and there acting like the fastest thing they even been in is a camery.. fucing grabbing onto everything in the car saying ok ok ok ok ok uh there's a curve up there .. this thing must run 8's ..yeah LOL

And with his goals, Go buy a new ZL1 put some drag radials on it and be done. Fast car reliable, and you don't have to fix it :)

Oliver rods on a stock crank? I guess. Why not spend the 600 or whatever on a forged crank? Lots of broken stock cranks in the 10's. Haven't seen many if any at all Chinese cranks fail in the 9's. Seen lots of stock cranks fail. But hey, give it a try.
