Tapping Noise- Look what I found

I have an 80k unopened motor. I have acquired a tapping noise that starts at 1600 rpms. I only hear when accelerating let off and I don't hear it. So I was using my magnet to listen to the valve covers and block. Then I put the magnet on the timing cover near the water pump and pull this out which is 1/2" diameter and 5/8" long. Does anyone know what this is? Additional info for the tapping noise. My water temp is good and the oil pressure is 60 psi cold/ 20 hot and I have about 60 psi at 2rpm cruise. The car runs normal and will boost till about 20 lbs and then breaks up and sometimes pops. I have a ta-49 with alky and turbotweak chip and the boost is set @23-24. only engine mod is upgraded springs approx 10k miles ago. Any help on the mystery (at least to me) part or the knock is appreciated..

its a small piston for the inside EGR :p...

seriously it goes on the fuel rail end

Thanks! Now I know what the part is any idea what the tapping sounds like a loose rocker but I checked those. Thanks for the help.

Ya, wish I could find my tapping noise too. Very closely inspected the exhaust system looking for a leak, even took the crossover off to look for signs, no luck.
Car runs absolutely perfect at all rpm and loads so it doesn't seem to be cam related. Pulls like a freight train all the way up.
Ticking is most prominent at idle and when cold.

My tapping noise is my rockers hitting the inside of my valvecover.

Interesting....I think I'm going to pull off my valve covers, start her up, and see if my ticking stops. Then again I should just be able to see a wear spot on the cover if that were the case.....Right?

Yes,that is how I figured it out,I was inspecting the covers for cracks when I noticed it,I was on the drivers side.

feel better, my car does the exact thing.....tapping cold and at idle....sounds like valve train to me too.....one day ill pull the valve covers and make sure the lifter rod bolts are tight? runs perfect...dont like any "sounds" though....
