TE-44 with a 3500 stall

Just wonder if a PAT's 3500 stall will work alright with a TE-44?

The spool will be insane fast.
It'll probably hurt performance a little.

Weird, the old faithfull gnttype site shows the TE44 at 3 different power levels but converter requirements are anything from stock up to 2700 stall. So I would assume even 3200 would be too much.

Im currently running a pats 10" 3200 l/u with my TE60, and IMO a 10" 3000 may work a little better (the 3200 is a little too loose). I initially opted for the 3200 over the 3000 b/c my turbo is non-bb.

IMO....a 10" 3500 is waaaay too much for a TE44.

Melissa's old mid 11 set up ran a stock converter with that turbo for a gazillion years

2800 is plenty. 3000 would be the loosest I'd think of running.

im running a 2800-3000 10.5 protorque that stalls as it should 2750 zero boost with a te44 .82 exh.. last time to track on 27" mt radials was a 1.57 7.2 at 95 and 11.31 119.96 , spoolup is instant

i built up a freinds car and he went with a 9.5" 32-3400 protorque and with a ta49 with a .82 exh (same wheels as the te 44 but rated less cfm due to compressor cover diferences ) he stals 3150 zeropsi ...and you can argue all you want about how its no good or a poor choice or that it will hurt performance ....full weight GN ttop on 28" mT radials 1.52 , 6.96 at 98mph , and 10.98 at 121

oh and with the pats... id drive it before i comment anything on the stall rating
had one pats 10" that was supposed to be 2800 with a ta49 and never really had a great 60'
he went with a 66bb on the new build so sent it in for a restall to loosen it up to 3200-3400 , according to powerlogger its stalling at 2190 (zero psi) , and he needs 9.4 psi to hit the rated stall of 3200 talk about turbo lag ZZZZ.....

scojack will probably qoute this entire post because he just likes doing it

x2. Id say Paul is right on the money. My old 2800 stall modified D5 out of my WH-1 is in a 11.30 car right now with a TE-44.

As for my GN, I bought once and went high stall. 9.5" 32-3400 ProTorque with a TE-61, for the time being. Spools instantly. This thing is a joke even with Mickeys on a 5 pound launch on the street.

I still need to iron out a few things with mine though.

Damn Doc, I just read your sig. Looks like Ive got some catching up to do!!

dont go playing the catchup game with me , your head gaskets wont change themselves

and as far as catching up... you still beat my tired 132k stock heap on a stock turbo even if that run was only .023 faster on a downhill track with 30mph wind at your back ,
and after the last round on the te44 with no cage the stock turbo is going back in....

Didnt you say to me, "it doesnt get done if you dont do it"; or something like that? Im just joking.

Im sure, sooner or later; the original HGs will go. Right now the car is doing alot of nothing sitting in the garage.... Taking a bit of a break.

If I ask real nice like can I make a trip up to your shop and get you to look at it? Ive given up on my '86....

Scott don’t give up lol. If it wasn’t for you that night in newark I wouldn’t have put alky on my car and bought slicks for this year.
As for the stall I run a 2800 and it seems to work well with my car on the street for a daily driver. i have a te-44 dbb turbo also.

I had a art car code 3600-3800 on a TA-60 journal bearing.

there was no lag, boost equaled perfectly my acceleration pedal

now the same art car is for my T-66 dbb havn't tried it out yet

After reading this thread I went out to check my car (TE-60) and I can barely get to zero boost, I have to really put some force on the brake pedal.

Do you have a stock size converter was it ever rebuilt(painted).. You want a 10 or 9.5 inch converter about 3000-3200 stall with that turbo ..Night and day difference

with my 2800 its 2750 about 0psi just at the point where the converter begins to grab and start to raise the front end , thats my hold point for most elimination rounds , if i hold the brake and try to build boost in less time than the tree takes to go green can hit 4200 with the car still not moving( a lotta boost )
