parts needed for under or rear mounted Turbos.

parts LIST needed for under or rear mounted Turbos.

Trying to get a general idea of what it would take to run twins under the car.
The main thing I need to figure out is the oiling system.
Oil pump?
Feed line size?
Return line size?
And whats the best place to tap the oil source from the engine
Or
An independent oiling system.
Oil cooler
oil pump
oil reserve.

This would be for my Dads 63 Implala
It would most likely have a 1990 350 SBC TBI
Not looking for a race car but my Dad wants to make it a show car and twins would help with the Show stuff.

PM me with your phone#, I can call you and go over some stuff. I have installed a few STS systems in the last couple years.

If it's for show having the front mount style would look better imo. But to answer your question, your best bet is probably to look at the STS website and see what their kits come with.

It will depend on what engine block you have on how you can feed oil to the turbo. I have several pressure ports on my Dart block I can choose from depending on the turbo location.

If the turbo unit is located at the back of the car a pump will be needed to return the oil back to the motor. You may or may not need a small sump or tank for the oil to drain into before being pumped back to the oil pan. There are many options on what pumps to use for this job. Some are very expensive and some are rather affordable. The cheaper ones are good for a strip car, but I would not trust them for any extended street use.

You are right about the front mount but the Fab work in my opinion is also multiplied a few times over.

I looked at the STS site but they have NO details on the oiling system.

My Dad, Brother and I have not 100% decided on the location of the turbos
I am leaning to under the car because of the work factor.
But also looking at the “Banks” turbo kits those look real simple and have a much bigger WOW effect. Like stated by previous poster.

On old type turbos (stock GNs) whats the max oil pressure that they can take?
Could a pump be used as a puller?
Example” run a line (feed) from the bottom of the oil pan to the turbo
After the Turbo hook up the pump then the line out of the pump back to the engine.
Talk to me people

I wouldn't chance it. The turbo's need a positive flow/pressure to them. Get a source from the engine for feed, then use the pump to get it back to the pan.

If you're opting to go for the Banks system, I'd spend the money and get a custom set-up, made the way "you"want it.

I would say do some searching over on ls1tech.. I have seen a few people that made their own remote oiling systems for the sts kit.. but I vote on under hood because it will look alot better for a show car imo..
