Stock TTA exhaust mod?

Has any one simply done away with the crossflow muffler and put 3" pipe in its place. Using one 3" outlet only? How did it sound and I know there would be some performance gain. Would this be worth it, I would like to run full exhaust at the track instead of the dump. Just not letting go of the $$$ until next season for an exhaust system. TIA

Haven't done it but stock is 2.75" intermediate pipe. You could just take off the muffler. I did that with my 84 Z28 15+ years ago and it didn't sound too bad. But I still had the converter in, so it was muffled to some extent.

On my way to work Friday, my downpipe came loose from the converter and scared the hell out of me since I was at WOT. It really wasn't all that loud and would probably be tollerable exiting from the rear with no muffler.
