Think your local drag strip sucks???

Then check this out. I don't know who's dumber...the people that built this track, or the Stang driver for even attempting to race on it knowing he wouldn't have enough distance to stop.

It was originally built for imports to race on. They really never got up enough speed to be any danger.

They call that a track??? Who would race down that? Why are spectators allowed that close?

Last 4th of July at Glenwood, IA they had the shockwave jet truck run out the back really far. It's an 1/8th mile track with plans to extend it to 1/4, so they marked the finish line at the 1/8 but built the big display signs at the 1/4 mark with barely any shutdown after them. Don't know for sure but it appeared that the driver misjudged and shut down at the 1/4. Parachutes fully engaged about the time he left pavement. He had to still be doing 100+ when he went into a muddy field. Kept it upright but it was too dark and too far away to see any damage. I wonder if that's on video somewhere?

He should have run in the other lane. That way we could have seen the flip more clearly.

I got a laugh listening to the announcer when the clip slowed at the end...
No doubt a bad idea, some people just have a death wish...

Just ran into this thread. As a local I can clear up some things The car has run a best of 7.9 secs. That track is a 1/8th, on that particular pass the problem was the dust/dirt on the strip. Car just slid & flipped over. There're 6 dragstrips here in Puerto Rico. Three 1/4s & three 1/8s, the island measures 100x35 which means you drive less than 1hr to find a dragstrip from any place on the island. Lucky aren't we?? The car has been upside down before & it's driven by his 17 y/o son.
