Another powdercoating question
I got myself an aluminum rad support and had it sent out to get blasted to get of the old paint and junk off.

My question is, how much weight would the powdercoating add to the rad support?

I'd think it would be minimal, definitely no more than paint I wouldn't think.
How did it look after blasting, did it pit it at all? Are you having the same shop that blasted it powder coat it? Post some pic's....

Good, there is guy at work that works for a powdercoater part time. He doesn't like to charge me for little stuff but this time I'm forcing him to take money.

I won't call it pitted,mory like a textured finish. The powdercoat will definitely smooth it out.

won't add any more weight than paint... unless, the person doing it is a novice and really puts on thick,.. even then, its extremely minimal. if you've got real tiny pitting, it can cause little "bubbles". but powdercoat will also cover lots of blemishes and imperfections too.
i've done lots of powdercoating, i'm not a pro, but have always been happy with my results, except for my first couple trial and error pieces when i started out of course

I have the same situation here. I know the owner of the shop, he always goes out of his way for racers. I feel bad, but not too bad.
He does very well with his commercial accounts, I think he has one of the biggest facilities around this area. It works out good if your in no hurry and can wait until he has something going on in the same color. Curious to see how it turns out...

I've done a few of these...........after sandblasting, use glass bead at a low pressure ( about 30-40 psi )to give the alum. a semi -gloss, smooth appearance. Then clear coat. Looks good and stays that way......good luck

Well I just got the aluminum rad support back from the powdercoater. I'm pissed he didn't charge me again.

I told him to concentrate more on the top because the rest you can't see it easily. The bolts you see are generic bolts threaded into hole to protect the threads from the powder.

Looks really nice, I wish I could have had mine done but I was tapped out. How much lighter is the aluminum one?

5-8 lbs............at the most.
