quarter panel wrinkle
Is a panel wrinkle or a reflection?

Not doing transbrake launches.
Alot of fast GM A-G bodies seem to have that problem.

There's a good video PaCemkr86 took at BvF last year.
It shows Disco Stu making a 9.xx pass and his fender right above the rear wheel and a little rear of the opera window buckles. Had to look at it a couple of times, but it most definitely moved. YouTube - Buick Vs. mustang Noble 2007 - Disco Stu

Thats a buckled 1/4 panel.
The fix is a better cage with some extra bars put into it, i talked with some guys last year in the TSM class and they said that fixes the issue. Might contact Jason White, Don Cruz, or Richiehighpsi on the site BW

generally that's a symptom of a notched frame without accompanying bracing.

Exactly...the car needs a roll cage that ties into the correct rear suspension points to support the frame when it's notched.

The cage is tied in to the same cross support that supports the shocks and the frame is notched. Where should I install some bracing, from what point to point? I was thinking of maybe tying where the cage ties into the frame above the rear end to the the rear frame rails about the same spot as the rear body bushing. Any recomendations on how to fix this before it gets ugly or pic's would be great.
Dusty, I need to fix it before I purchase one of those mirracle converters. I will get a hold of later this week about my combo ect...

I don't know if you saw Todd Humphries new TSO car or not that I was there with. He tied into all the areas needed to keep the frame straight. His car was bought with the fender wrinkle aready in place.
The rear bars for the cage should tie into the frame on top of where the coil spring mount is. The extra bar going back to the bushing area is extra insurance, my car does not have this bar. Todd did add an extra bar from the main hoop up to the bar that goes down through the rear speaker area to add some extra support. I don't have pictures. This extra bar I'm speaking of ties into the main hoop near the bar that goes behind the driver seats. It runs upward near the quarter glass and ties into the bars before they pass through the speaker panel. The purpose is to prevent upward movement of the rear bars.

When a car is launching, the lower control arm frame mounting points are twisting upwards. By notching the frame and not re-enforcing is the cause.
I have the HR Parts & Stuff lower control arm boxing brackets and crossmember welded in front of the frame mounts. Another good pic of the quarter panel buckling is in GM High Tech of Rick Jensen's car launching. His frame was notched by Cotton. His frame was plated on the inside of the frame rail. Gonna partially disagree with this one. Yes notched cars will suffer from this unless the area cut off is streghtened or the roll bar is properly designed.
But Ive seen quite a few G bodys wrinkle the 1/4 with out a notch. Lets remember that most of folks totally ignore the fact that some of these cars came with as many as rear 3 lower body bushings missing on the rear frame alone. I just got a GN in and its missing 3 bushings in the back and 2 mid. Did a TSM car 2 years ago, a 86 TType and it too was missing 3 rear lowers . In other words that rear trunk area is just being held by one set of bushings. Im almost positive that some of these cars are still to this day missing bushings.

Mine buckeled-in after installing all poly body bushings and the GNX bushings. The GNX bushings raised the rear of the body off the frame a little higher than what it was and when I tightened the rear body mounts the whole panel buckled-in. I loosened the rear body mounts and it popped right back out, so I shimmed the rear body mounts. This was years ago, I still plan on going back in there and pulling out the GNX bushings and cutting them down as I think this is what caused the rear to sit up too high off the frame rails.
