That's too bad, Ford is screwing themselves. They should promote the fan base which is what made them great* to begin with. Ford should let them go ahead with their calendar.
*(thread disclaimer: Not as great as Buick! )

Do you think the BBC would have a problem if we started our own club?

Probably

To follow-up on this post. The problem lies with CafePress and Ford, not with Ford and the many Mustang Clubs.

CafePress was reproducing Ford intellectual property without having permission to do so, and since they were profiting from the use of this property, they were violating the trademarks of Ford and it's subsidiaries.

It probably is not known all over the 100's of boards that have followed the story, but BMC and the Ford club relations department has been in touch with one another and an arrangement has been worked out so BMC may publish the calendar for it's member and friends.

To put it bluntly, BMC started spouting information all over the internet claiming the Ford's attorneys contacted CafePress specifically about the BMC calendar and told them it could not get printed and the owners of the cars could not even take pictures for use in the calendars, when in fact CafePress was presented with a cease and desist letter sometime last year from Ford and it had nothing to do with any Mustang Club or BMC, but with CafePress infringing on the use of Ford trademarks.

Rather than investigating what they would need to do in order to print this calendar, they went off half cocked and started blaming Ford when one phone call to Ford could have corrected the issue.

Now BMC is denigrating CafePress, just because they are following the law.

Don't we have Turbo Buick calendars?

I guess, as long as you print them on your home printer and give them away it will be OK to distribute? I did read that it's because they had "Black Ford Mustang" club on it. Just funny and sad that they would go that far. I guess books authors and such should all pay Ford money.

Ahem...... Yes we do!

Sorry to kill the thread - but if you read down - they just didnt want them using the ford logo in the calendar itself.....

I would imagine my distribution is so low - its not even on the GM radar.....

I would guess any publishing company worth their salt, would get permission to reproduce the trademarks.

How would you feel as an owner of a trademark, that some company out there may be printing thousands of products using your trademarks and profiting from the use of your trademarks?
