Buying a new car out of state & bringing it into Kali

It seems to me that somewhere I remember hearing of some stupid law about bringing a new car into Kali. (Needs so many miles on the clock)?
Anybody familiar with this subject. I'm looking at new '08 Z06 vettes & not liking what I see on the sticker.

Gary

as long a vehicle is 50 state smog legal, there is no limitations on purchasing out side the state of Kalifornia, you'll pay taxes in the state you buy it, and Kali will try to make you pay them again, but make sure you bring proof of payment of taxes ( sales tax) , you'll still pay lic fee's. etc,
in the old days you had to have minimum number of miles before they would let you register in kali,, but that was due to smog laws.

Thanks, Lee. I thought that it had something to do with people buying new cars out of state to avoid sales tax, which I thought might be still in effect. I expect to pay taxes, just don't like it. Maybe I should look for a already owned extremely low mileage '08 and a user friendly seller. "If you can afford the car, you can afford the state sales tax" is definitely not my personal motto to live by.

I would check with your DMV. I bought a used car out of town and my dmv told me if I paid the tax in Florida(where I got the car) I would've paid again when registering in La. Just my .02cents

i live in ny and a few cars from out of state and ny only charges the diiference between the other state and for ex i bought a brand new car in pa and 6 percent tax on it and when i brought it back to ny our tax at the time was 7 percent so they made me pay the 1 percent tax difference to reg it and if you buy a car from a state that has the same tax percent you don't pay any state tax in ny

State & county sales tax wise in Kali, you only pay the difference between what you paid in the state that you bought it in and Kali state & the county tax that you reside in.
