Well, I have two friends with them... Both have headers, full exhaust, the proper tune and dyno right at 300-310 at the wheels with those mods. My friend with only those mods runs 13.8 @ 106 with a 2.1 60ft(stock tires). My other friend also has 4.10 gears and a set of slicks and has seen 12.5s with a low 1.6 60ft.
The guy with 4.10s just added a supercharger(blower type not sure what brand) and he put down 450 at the wheels on a mild tune... We are thinking he will be in the lower 11s now. More than likely whoever you raced was in a bone stock or cat back car and didnt know how to drive unless your TR is pretty serious. Me and the exhaust only guy run dead even from a roll as long as I time it right. From a dead stop me and the 4.10s guy were dead even on the street(back when i had DRs and he had the slicks on). Just like these cars, with the right mods those cars can be downright MEAN. Basically with 4.10s and slicks you have very low 13s car...

The modular motors and these new 3 valve ones, all respond very well to gearing. With 310rwhp, Bob Cosby ran 11.60's in his 99 cobra, stock engine with bolt on parts, naturally aspirated, with a solid rear out of a GT and 4.56 gears. Basically the same combo that I had. The new mustangs are a little heavier, but have a stronger midrange than the older cobras. Add a blower with 12psi and its easy to have over 500rwhp and run low 11's. As with any manual trannied car, you need to have a dialed in suspension, sticky tires, and be a good driver to see any good numbers out of them. Your typical Joe on the street will be lucky to run a high 13.
