PowerTV actually does 2 different things which is where the confusions starts. We offer our video player to forums and actually pay them to use it. We then run banners ads/etc., and pay them based on how much videos are watched. The forums control the content 100% - we don't upload or add any videos to the player at all. So basically that would be like TurboBuick having their own YouTube and you users would upload and control the content. The other part of our company produces online TV shows. So that's the issue that is being attacked, that we are secretly paid by GM, SEMA, etc. to post on thousands of forums. And that's the part that's untrue. However, we do sell advertising to our shows, and some of those shows have product placement in them. Now this where the accusations come in. Now, please keep in mind, only about 15% of our shows have any product placement, but this where the corporate spammers stuff came from. Now, this is the same as Hot Rod TV, Rides, Pimp My Ride, Payback, 2 Guys Garage, and just about any show. If you want to check out a thread that really explains everything in depth, check out a response from the founder of powerTV Corral Forums There are two sides to this story. This entire situation started when the founder, James Lawrence, defended SEMA when Jonathan Rubenstein was attacking the **** out of SEMA. And now James is paying the price. You can read about Jonathan's attacks on SEMA here . That being said, we are not without fault, but there is more to this story than it appears. Jonathan has driven a lot of traffic to his web site, and he seems to have a real history for attacking people. |

John my biggest problem is the ads around the video page. Not trying to be funny but it reminds me of filecabi.net. I don't like the young looking girls on the page etc.... Maybe you guys could consider selling us a copy of the software for us to use as we wish
We PAID big time for a VB guru to do this for us and got stuck However that is what I am still looking for any ads on our video page will have to be buick vendors...... |

Jason and I met Jon and the PRI show while they were filming a spot for ProCharger. He seemed like a decent guy at the time. I would give him the benefit of the doubt and listen to his story based on that meeting. I will say to Jon however coming into someone elses house and calling them names or correcting thir grammer (does not matter if you are right or wrong) is not a way to make new friends in a very tight group of people like the one that exists here. I will try not to make an assumption about Mellisa's first post but Jon I think you can see how people would take it the wrong way. I pay good money to advertise here. I take offense to others coming in and doing it without paying and trying to make it look like they are my new best friend. Now if you did not do that accept my apology, but if you did please explain your actions and just tell us what you want. We are a reasonable group when presented with the truth and honest intentions.
Mike Licht

Jon and I have ironed out our differences through PM, I dont know how i wound up getting tagged on this thread ( well I do now after reading some of my replys prolly due to me reading all the smear on the other forums, websites etc that got me all riled up) but I explained to him the more i felt like i was getting poked with a stick the more i poked back, its just the way I am, call me an a$$ I dont care.
In PM I told Jon I didnt think it was fair that what i felt was he had to come in and clean up a mess in any forum for that matter, meaning that someone comes in and makes a mess then they give him the broom? they had to have known in the front office that the sign up and greeting wasnt going so well yet it seemed like they tried it once more in here and that went over like a lead balloon. I think what they offer is a good idea but also thought it was bad marketing to the masses plain and simple and you never have that second chance to make a first impression. All i said from the gitgo was that it takes money to make money and if you got a biz then buy a banner then drop by and provide info and link here or there with the latest, thats just the way it is. people pay them to advertise and they in turn have to pay forums to advertise even though they are offering a paid service but them are bugs to be worked out. But with the people in here, I for one would like to see this be the turning point for powertv to get the smear campaign off their backs and get back the credibility in the forums that they deserve. Hard work pays off but it helps to be a little humble i leave this thread on a positive note so please dont rip apart anything i said and force me to come and re-explain what i meant Last edited by mcasteel2112 : January 3rd, 2008 at 12:06 PM. |

mcastel,
I did get your PM and I totally agree with what you said there and in your latest post. I definately walked in to a house on fire on this one, and with the masses rioting, I put myself in the Frankenstein monster situation. I did the exact same thing you did as far as poking each other in turn with more strongheadedness. I apologize for the commotion caused in this thread, but hotrodders is putting some heavy firepower on us. I think the webmaster for corral.net put it best when he said that 'hotrodders attempt to spankhismarketer is in turn, a genius idea put in to effect to promote his own site. most people have never heard of that site until they started speading this campaign around.' Mike Licht, I believe you actually met James, our president/ceo at the PRI show. Regarding my actions, I came in trying to explain the mess (especially since hotrodders was brought in to this) through the 80, some odd, posts. It was apparent that the welcome wasn't warm and after a couple of rough words had been exchanged, it seems that fire was thrown upon the fire. In hindsight, that wasn't such a good idea. Shane, The ads that are being played at the moment on a site such as this would be based on google adsense. As it has been mentioned before, the aftermarket for buicks, at the moment, blows. The internet is something that can help remedy this in time. As Mike mentioned, we do video production at shows and further, and the guys we do production for look at our sites. I'm definately not saying that they will jump the gun and start making Buick forced induction kits, but in the long run, and time, it could help. Again, I apologize to all. Let us start the New Year off fresh. Last edited by powerjon : January 4th, 2008 at 11:49 AM. |

It's basically like a customizable automotive you-tube. Anyway, I've seen all the posts here and I know how you guys feel about everything, but please keep in mind there are two sides to every story. Please take a moment to read: HotRodders.com/Jonathan Rubenstein's powerTV Witch Hunt - powerTV Online Forums I admit, we did make some mistakes in not getting more involved in this forum before posting, but we aren't "spam" - it's not like we're posting Viagra ads everywhere! Anyway, I would really appreciate if you took into consideration the info in the above link. And, I do in fact have a bunch of project cars: 71 Nova "The Swinger Nova" Malibu "Project Grandma" 00 Mustang "Project Sun Devil" 06 Mustang with an LSX Motor "Project Heretic" 88 Mustang "Project 666" 08 Corvette Come by the powerTV Garage sometime and see them! Thanks, Melissa

^^^^^^^Just like the bad penny that keeps showing up^^^^^^^
------------------------------------------------------------------ How many hundreds of automotive forums got their version of this latest effort? You know, after bombarding the net's car forums in such a clumsy, awkward and condescendingly stupid manner (Hi, I'm Melissa, a bigtime car girl) as if gearheads would follow the bait (girl w/ vids? Yayyyy!) because we're such an easily-led bunch of naive & unsuspecting bunch of sheep (with $$$) and then having it totally backfire on you... One would have to ask...why weren't you fired after such dismal BS? And then one notices your last name...is the same as the "head" of your marketing enterprise. So it appears that this crap also rightfully rolls up-hill, and your enterprise's policy manual was assembled missing an "Ethics chapter. If anything can doom the Internet, it will likely be viral marketing schemes like yours. |

No, not really . . . just trying to state my side of the story here. Sorry, I mean the whole post is basically slamming me and my company. I felt like I should say something. I'm not saying that what I did (posting the same introduction on a bunch of sites) was not wrong. I did make a mistake doing that and I am sorry. I was just hoping you would take a look at our side of the story on this. I mean what's the difference, Jonathan Rubinstein is basically "spamming" forums with links to his site with his allegations about us. At least we were posting cool videos!
I understand why you guys feel the way you do and certainly won't bother you with our new videos anymore!

Very interesting read on the below site:
PowerTV Alienation (by deceitful tactics) of the very markets you want to partner with is pretty...well, is just stupid.

This thread isn't about slamming you and your company- it's pointing out how you and your company slammed yourselves.

At least Mellissa admitted she made a mistake with her approach, she deserves some credit for that. To be honest I think their concept is pretty good and would make a nice addition to this and many other forums. Too bad we got off on the wrong foot, maybe in the future they will have a better proposal that is more appealing.
