87 Turbo T on ebay....

So i was looking at the car below, and its one of those RARE WE4 turbo Ts...

Well, obviously the RPO code shows that it was a WO2 WE4, but the car has all the chrome trimmings...
I thought to myself, who would go thru all that trouble to remove every piece of black, and install chrome....
Well, they didnt..
The VIN on the RPO doesnt match the VIN listed in the info box...

So i assume someone removed the decklid in the past, and installed a WE4 decklid on the Turbo T

Raise your hand if you agree

Nice car thou..

Question

Unless something shadier is going on, wonder if the trunk lid or the dash vin was changed. Someone should carfax the vin on the RPO label, wonder what happen to that T

He does say "1 of 1547" which is a WE4.

Though most people say it, a WE-4 is really the only "Turbo-T"

Look at the VIN on the listing, and look at the VIN on the RPO sticker......................... WE4 is an option on the RPO sticker which means it IS one of 1547...............I think?

Right, all 87s are a Turbo T.
But if you wanted a blackout 87 turbo regal with black bumpers and grey floor shift interior, no hood ornament, it was called a WE4, obviously with the W02 blackout trimmings.
If you wanted a GN, then you would have purchased a WE2 package, known as the cookie cutter
If you wanted a limited, the it would be W05 and could get any color combo, any interior, with or without chrome ect...
Then again, a limited is really just a Turbo-T but it could be made in any color combo, but had the comfy interior.

My post was just to show, the black car was a nice car, but the decklid has been replaced. I assume the car is just a black T with a replaced decklid.

Well, my trunk lid is from a 87 GN and my car is an black 86 T-Type with the GN spoiler. So if I posted the pic of my trunk lid and then post my VIN, they'd be differnet. But yet again it's not the same circumstance as this car.

The trunk lid is from a car in Texas, and it was 07/27/1989 when that car got a salvage title and it says WE2 on the RPO sheet. My T is from LA, so somewhere down the line the car must have got a trunk lid from Texas and all that since down in LA there was a Salvage title, but now is a clean title in KS.

Just wanted to mention that.

I can't tell by the pix if the trunk trim is chrome or black. Though it does have the white stripes on the bumper rub strips. The rest of the chrome seems to be there. Must be an early build car if original as the black with chrome was suposedly discontinued early in '87.

Not exactly.
All Turbo T's are WE4's.
Any Regal with the LC2 is a turbo Regal. The Y56 code is an along for the ride code in that it was forced onto the build sheet when the LC2 code was ordered.

You have play the code game. Basically if it has a "W" code than it is it's own seperate model when dealing with the 87's. The only exception is the W02 black trim code, that is an option.

But what about the "T" package cars? You could get the T package on any base regal, from the na 3.8 to the olds 307 (which I had before the swap). This also included the LC2. So what do you call a T package car with the turbo 3.8?

The T package was exclusive to 87 only, 86 was the last year for t-type. Turbo T describes the turbo cars other than the GN. WE4's were made because the GNs exceeded some percentage of production (cant recall the actual verbage here) and GM had to make an all black option package to satisfy demand without overproduction of GNs.

As I first said and Turbofish elaborated, the Turbo T "officially" only describes the WE4. Since a regular Regal with a T package and a turbo engine had no "name" we all called it a Turbo T. A Turbo T has only grown to mean all other turbo Regals than GN's... it wasn't Buick's original intent.

Here's a link to a scan of the original 1987 Buick brochure which clearly shows the WE4 the only car referred to as a Turbo T.

http://www.buickwe4.com/we4brochure.pdf

It's definitely a car with an interesting history.

Eric

That also says the TURBO-T wheels were 15x6

I am really confused, probably from the six pack of mountain dew i just drank but if a 86 is a T-TYPE, then i assumed a 87 was a TURBO-T.

Oh, i just reread turbofish38's post, that makes sense i guess...
GN
WE4
LIMITED
All the other 87s are just a turbo regal, not a 87 T-TYPE

I have the brochures for the WE4 hanging on my garage walls, shows its the WE4 Turbo T... never really thought of it that way..
Thank god i only have limiteds and a bastard 87 grey column shift 87 turbo regal.
What do you think of my dads 87 TURBO T

His only son must be a great guy

As far as I understand it.

In 87 they got rid of the T-type and allow its components the LC2 Turbo Motor, T packages, Black Out Sport Packages available on all Regals (ie Regal and Regal Limited Body Style).

Their basically was 3 special models in addition to Regal and Regal Limited body styles, the WE4 Turbo T (basically the Prior T-Type) and Grand National and ofcourse GNX.

The confusion comes in that you could order a Regal or Regal Limited with the Turbo Package and T package, but a Regal with the T and Turbo packages isn't technically a Turbo T, that name was suposed to be reserved for WE4.

WTF-

I asked about the VIN and the auction ended immediately

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1987-...QQcmdZViewItem

Bw,
The car was never wrecked or one part replaced on it. Also the car sold locally for the full reserve price . Yhe guy who bought it has 3 Grand Naationals and had no problem with anything on it. The tag must have been a factory fluke because the listed id # is for exactly what it is. Thanks for your interest.

Hopefully it will turn out fine, i guess the decklid could have been swapped when the car was flipped, rolled and landed in a pond

Funny thing is, i used that line on my buddys car all the time,... damn thing turned out to have a salvage title during the course of him owning it Thats a long story, still in limbo on the title...

Back to the thread, i bet i know who bought the car, father and son duo from wisconsin....
