Sealed up battery compartment makes battery last forever??

A friend just pulled up in a brand new Infinity, when he p[opped the hood I noticed the batter is sitting in the back corner passenger side against the firewall and is in a separate compartment from the engine, in fact it has a rubber seal at the top so the hood completely seals it off from the engine heat and the battery is inside a sealed plastic box with the wires running through the side.
He said Infinity warrants the battery for the life of the car so he never has to buy a battery, and the way it is sealed up preserves it, I could see keeping it away from the engine heat would help it..but keep for the life of the car...I replace batteries about once every 3-4 years!

I also noticed the brake booster and master cylinder were sealed off from the engine on the other side...

Wonder if anyone will be making these sealed up heat protectant boxes for old cars now?? if this works.

Well, THEORETICALLY it could work...but I doubt it is comepletely sealed...I mean to the point that NOTHING gets out

BMW and Mercedes have been putting their batteries in the trunk for years. I got six good years out of our last battery, but it recently needed to be replaced. Engine heat isn't the only thing that kills batteries. Using batteries kills batteries

My 96 Olds Aurora (battery underneath the back seat) still had the original battery in it when I traded it in 2005.

Got a friend that has his own battery business for the past 15+ years.... he says that heat IS the #1 killer of batteries...... food for thought....

Come to think of it, my boat battery is up in the storage compartment and is completely away from the motor, its not sealed, but is definitely out of the heat, and it may have lasted 5 years, was a marine deep cycle...have an Optima regular car battery in it now for 2 years...well see if it lasts longer than usual. BTW, no need for a marine deep cycle, my boat gets used more than most my cars 2-3 times a week except for 3-4 months out of the year and its disconnected then.

The Corvette has had the battery inside since 1963.They went back under the hood in 84. Just about all of the luxury cars from GM like the Park Ave/DeVille/Bonneville also have the batteries under the rear seat. I too agree that it is not the location but how it is used that determines the life of a battery. Now what they really need to do is make a battery you can clean and flush periodically. Like those old glass case batteries used on airplanes and submarines. If you could clean them,than you would never have to replace them. Less batteries sitting around poluting the earth anyway.

less batteries sold = less profit = bad for battery business guys = not going to happen
