Seen one here for sale locally yesterday, good looking car for a Chrysler product. Supposed to be quick lil' bastards. I'd buy it if I had room for it. Pulling 20mpg in the wifes GN so I'll pass on it.

I've been thinking about a new daily driver also and the DSM's have peaked my interest. The one drawback I have seen is that a lot of them have been driven hard...maybe it is just the area I am in, but there does not seem to be many NICE 10-12 year old Talons/Eclipses for sale.

I've been looking at these talons also as a driver. Does anybody know what is a good year to buy and what things to look for on them.

I would think an ls1 would be a good DD. Especially if you slap a turbo on it!

That is odd.
I picked up a 84 Fiero SE with the 3 speed auto and four banger. It's red with the awesome white racing stripe (15 HP). I stole it for $800. It's in great shape, smokes a bit at start up and like every other 80's GM the top is sun faded, but all in all not bad for a $800 car.About the LC2 swap I think if you're interested it would be cool if we could work together on this. Comparing notes and what not. I'll be the first to admit that I know ZERO about transaxles, but I'm wondering if I could use a T Riv trans. I think it could be modified to fit. If not I want to pick up one of the 5 spd getrags like you have and finally put to rest the TR Manual Tranny argument. Where are you located? Right now I'm migrating between Chicago and Detroit. If you want I'll PM you my phone number. |

You might want to do a timing belt swap asap with those little cars. Good little cars though.

I just got a 1998 Mazda 626 with a 2.5L DOHC V6 and a 5 speed. It feels pretty quick and it's fun to drive. I got like 31 mpg on the highway and like 23 or 24 or so in town

Well, you can't really build any boost pre-launch at the line if that's what you are asking. But you can launch at any rpm that you want. So you can really make boost quick once you let the clutch out. My car is front wheel drive though, so I don't want to launch with any boost - it wouldn't do anything but make tire smoke. It will make boost faster than the tires can hold it with no problem. A fiero is a fairly light car and the gearing in that trans gives you alot in 1st, so you won't need to have as much power at the launch. And since it is mid engine rear wheel drive, I'm sure it will plant the tires quite well. Lots of traction to load the engine and help you make boost quick. Or, you could use one of those autos and just get a high stall. Then I bet you could get some killer 60' times. A friend of mine has been planning on doing this for a few years now, he just hasn't gotten around to it yet, so we have put alot of thought into it. Originally he was going to use an LC2, but now he is leaning towards a 3800 and a te 62 with a big mouth 86/87 intercooler.

The DSM's are great cars for eberyday driving, as long as you DONT modify it!! I had a 93 TSI w/ an Automatic, the turbo, injectors, computer are different from the 5spd version, so the car was not as responsive and crisp as I would have liked it to be, and because of the AWD with the auto it got about 18mpg on the highway. So I upgraded turbo, inj, ecu, DP, exhaust, just to get some better MPG with it and to have some fun too
Car was a headache, but ran a 13.9 w/ a 1.6 60ft and got much much better fuel economy after the upgrades but tuning these cars are a nightmare. So to all that are interested in the DSM's get one but buy the 5spd and just drive it. Here is a pic of mine I sold to by my 1st TR from JOHNBOY here on the board.
