Why are the GSCA Nats going to be the Buick Musclecar Nationals next year?

Like the title says, what's going on?

I am pretty sure it is to branch outside of the club, allowing Non-Members to run as well as draw more attention to the race from MAJOR sponsors to increase payout and promote it as an event instead of a club meet.

Good new stuff!!!!

For many years, the GS Nats has been a separate entity from the GS Club. The logistics, administration, management, finances and all operating aspects of the Nats were separate of the Club.

A move was made a couple years back to stem the downward trend of the quality and administration of the Nats. The changes to accomplish this are all pretty much in place for next year.

The GSCA will give support and publicity for the event, but the new administration will now be "operating" and planning the annual event. Many of the same people/workers will be there supporting John Chamberlain, the event director.

A Buick Musclecar Nationals web site is now in the works, and should be operational shortly. You will find on that site the many new and exciting plans to keep this the premier Buick event for show, racing, general fellowship and social gathering!

Bill also touched on our efforts to attract more sponsors, especially major ones, which will allow increased payouts. This in turn attracts more and better racers and follows with more spectators. A win/win/win situation for the entire Buick community!

Have the dates been announced yet?

No WAY I'm getting stuck at the craptastic Econo Lodge again.

May or June?

John believes the people attending the Nats should have a voice in when the event should take place. The debate of a May date which is generally cooler, better weather for the racers, or a June date which allows more families to attend after summer starts has been around for years..

At this point, track availability can be had for either month. John plans to post a poll so he can obtain feedback to accomodate the majority voice. We should see this poll within a few days.

I like May also. Cooler weather, and kicks the summer off before memorial day.

In Junes defense, it would allow people to get their cars together a little longer as there always seems to be a parts shortage over the winter...........

Was there a few years ago for Nats in June. It was like Florida heat. Like the cooler May dates.

my .02 cents

I think it should be held twice a year, once in early spring like May and again later in fall for end of year. Much cooler weather...

OR possibly in a second location, it could bring more racers, people and sponsors, vendors.... ???

What about open racing event for anyone interested, member event in May and general public event at end of summer...

Just wondering.... it could even be for a weekend Friday - Sunday

Racing 2-3 days and then Gambler racing on the following day....
