How much is your car payment?

I apologize if this is to personal. I hear the average car payment is around $500.00. I am having a hard time adjusting to that, so just thought I'd ask around.

It wouldn't surprise me. Isn't the average cost of a new car about $24,000 now? Yikes. Personally, I pay $0 a month for an '87 Buick and a '97 Jetta.
Sadly, that's all I can afford, too !

Same here $0...my wife and I made an agreement before we got married that we would not have car payments. If we are looking for a new car, we save, save, save until we can pay cash for it. We do not have kids, so we typically buy vehicles based on performance, style and practicality instead of reliability, crash worthiness, fuel economy etc... We recognize that this works for us, but doesn't work for everyone.

Now, the student loan payments...that is a different situation.

So with current gas prices, your Suburban payment, insurance and monthly gas costs are probably more than your mortgage.

I will never have a car payment again!

This is assuming the wife doesn't total another one.

FWIW, the more down payment you put down the cheaper the payments.
Ex. You can put down 11,000 you'll have payments of only 387.00 a month for a 2005 GTO!

87GN - $0
95 Talon TSI - $0

Unless I hit the lottery I will never buy a new car. I typically buy a car that is 2 years old with less than 20,000 miles for about 1/2 what the sticker price was. I bought the talon with 19,500 miles on it for $9750, sticker was a little over $23000.

I could go out and finance a new vette right now, but I'd rather my money work for me than be pissed away on depreciation. Right now I'd rather spend the money on a fixer-upper house, do some work to it and make money, which is what I'm doing.

NJ,
A friend of mine bought a new 2002 318 bmw and the thing was in the shop 22 times in less than 3 years. EVERYTHING went wrong with it. Windows fell out of the tracks on both sides 2 times, wheel bearings, injection system failures, body cladding falling off, etc. It left her stranded over 5 times in those 3 years too.
