Question

Did you see the movie? I think the hype is a little much, but I'll withhold judgement until I see the movie. I'm sure even an atheist can appreciate a good movie, "fairy tale" or no.

Why bash it just because you don't believe in the story? It is one of the greatest stories even if you don't believe it. I've read greek and hindu religious works even though I don't believe in them. They have good stories and ideas that I think are well adapted to everyone despite who you call God.

I will go see it in a few weeks. But It's "Hollywood" as it's best. Fiction movies of this caliper and like Stars Wars or Jedi movies are always box office hits. I must say it got everyone thinking good or bad. That's good too.

No one is bashing it. Just some people get too involved with the plot. I liked some of the early Elvis movies but I don't go around and dress and act like I'm Elvis. I also know he is dead. Startrek followers can also get carried away. This is Mels view on the Bible it's not God's second coming..

There is a Passion thread for a single view. Maybe you would be more satified posting there.

I am going to see it on Friday. Some of the family went today and thought it was a very fair depiction of the story as told in the Scriptures. It does not sound like a movie for younger children due to the gore, but, it sounds very realistic.

I saw some interesting commentary on tv tonight from representatives of various religious affiliations including Billy Graham's son. It's interesting to see the various interpretations/slants put on the subject. One can understand how three blind men can give different descriptions of an elephant after a number of people from different backgrounds explain to you the "real" meaning.

I continue to feel that the intent of religion and the practice of religion is too often an entirely different matter.

Thanks to you, Raven, Shawn, and those others that can make civil comments without dealing in assumptions and name calling.

My opinion is that Mel would have never risked so much of his own money for purely profit. I believe this movie came from his heart because he felt a calling to do it in spite of the organized opposition against it. I hope that it inspires people to not only claim Christianity if they so desire, but to actually strive to live it.

Hope that is true also. I'm disappointed at the Jesus ware that's being sold, nails on rawhide etc. That is not what this movie is about. Whether you believe in Jesus or not the actual story is very moving. I do not believe very singel word of the bible since it's been changed and retold so many times that it would be impossible for it to be all true. Neather the less the core of the bible and Jesus is what I consider good for me. If someone doesn't want to believe in Jesus or they believe in another system them fine for them. I won't rub my religion in your face. Don't rub yours in mine.

I agree to a point. If they are christian views is Ok but other views should be kept quiet. This would be true at a church gathering but on a bulletin board there are many beliefs here.
So how can you accept one and exclude the rest. "The Passion" will stir emotions like abortion rights. Strong on both sides. But until the board owner comes in and says "Christian Views Only"
I feel I can talk about my view with others here.
I don't think Mel did it for the money. I think he just used his money to project his religious views.

We all have a right to our opinion and we all have the right of choice.

But no one has the right to disrespect some ones religious beliefs
or to say there religion is wrong.

Topics like this are very touchie so please watch what you say / type.

Jesse I agree with you 100%. I will try my best to keep it civil. I hope you feel the sameway when they come in here and attact my civil views. I hope you warned Cool84 and NJTurbo That I have a right not to be christian. I hope they can follow Raven's and a few others as an example how to discuss religion in an adult manner. Thanks again for looking out for us..

Hmmmmmmm, can I make a guess??????

What is sickening about the movie is all the hype it is getting from religious "Leaders". Depending on what their religion is, it just seems that any non christians are bashing the movie for being inaccurate when it seems to be a pretty good depiction of the story as told in the bible. Some people just get upset because others don't see it their way and it makes them look bad.

I don't believe in a supreme being. I'm more aligned with natural science and scientific theories. Also Darwin views are starting to get challenged by new DNA studies. So I'm still open for a final answer. I also don't agree with any religion that claims they have an exclusive to God. I believe a Hindu has as must right as a Christian. Worship any way that makes you happy. Just don't force it on me.
The Story Mel told was based on his beliefs. I'm not sure how close it is to the Bible. But it's his account. This view of a actual event would be called "heresay" in a court of law and thrown out.
I take it as face value as a epic tale. Many Christians and Jews now are pointing fingers at each other. They should both just look at as "Hollywood" at it's worst or best. What ever you believe

I changed the title from "Atheist" to "Open Mind" View. I thought maybe it was insulting to some. Nobody asked me to to this.
